Dear Adrienne, just heard this evening Oct 27th of Gene death. My sincere sympathy to you Adrienne and family at this sad time. Always remember your wedding because it was the first one that I was part of where the bride and groom were vegetarians…this was very unusual in those days. And we had a young lad from the parish who had Downs Syndrome joined us for the celebration…last ti e we met was at the EDEN in Ballinteer for a reunion.. sending you my love and blessing for the journey ahead. We hadn't been in touch for many years since the mid 80s but I will always remember Killer( he was 'killer' before he went to 'Sam') as one of the most empathetic, kind and thoughtful individuals I had the pleasure to have been friends with. Rest in peace Killer.

All the comments above are a wonderful and remarkable tribute to Gene and how he touched so many people throughout his life.
But none more so than you Adrienne, as you were together for well over 50 years and you will remain inseparable forever.
I remember Gene in his early teens and how you brought so much joy to him.
Gene was my best playpal in St Peter’s and until he left primary and preferred to be with Adrienne, and later Sam… !

Even as a kid Gene had a great sense of humour and who made life brighter for the other kids. He was so easygoing that he didn’t even seem to mind if I beat him up on occasion, making him the perfect playpal.

I would have liked to come over for the funeral but grandchild care duties made it impossible. I think there is no hiding it… the loss is and will remain huge but memories of Gene’s great sense of humour and personality, and the lives he touched forever more, will console us in the years to come.

To Adrienne and all the family, so sad to hear of the passing of Eugene or as he was fondly known to me and the rest of my family, Sam. Great memories of Sam and those days in Greentrees Road when he would call in to Milo with the cakes and have a cup of tea with the family. I know my mam was very fond of him.
