Bless all your family,Pooch-was an inspiration to many a young lad ,which coupled with his friendly and open character made him a legend.

Driving back from wexford yesterday and I drove passed Wyatville
Eugene came in to my mind a half an hour later I was at home reading
his obituary I had'nt heard , I looked after Eugenes van for years what a
gentleman, my daughter played for Joeys senior team and he always took a great interest in how she and team were doing , my deepest sympathy to Barry and family Darragh

Very sad to hear of the passing of Pooch. Great memories of playing 'crossing and finishing' in Cross Avenue, before becoming team mates throughout our schoolboy football from U-13 to U-18. I wouldn't have put myself in the same class as Pooch but I was very proud to be part of his team and very proud to have him as a friend for life. As a child growing up in Athlone in the 80’s, I watched Eugene scoring goals for Athlone Town and I remember him fondly. May his soul rest in peace.

So sad and shocked to hear of Eugene’s passing condolences to all his family I worked in Hicks with Eugene for many years we often had a breakfast together although I worked in the front of shop Eugene and the guys up the back ( as we called it ) always had a laugh and a joke when you passed them by , he was always upbeat and witty …. Truly devastated to hear of passing of my true friend eugene a true legend and a true gentleman all our great days from 3 asides in the park to all our wins with the cosmos and he won all those 3 asides with Lar Hardy & Ironer and they were for 10 bob a team till we meet again and get the cosmos going again up in the sky my thoughts are with your family

It was with sadness I heard of Eugene's passing. As a Tullamore native ,I saw many games in St Mel's park. Eugene's performances were intrinsic to Athlones successes. A flamboyant and skillful player. I do regret that I never met him. The tributes verify he was a class act on and off the pitch. Condolences to all his family ,relations and friends. The Light of Heaven to a superb footballer and an obvious class act off the pitch.

Eugene "Pooch" Davis was a childhood hero with Athlone Town scoring the goals that gave us unprecedented success and many fantastic moments and memories.
When he came back to Athlone as Asst. Manager with Pat Devlin I got to know the man himself and proved that you can meet your hero and not be disappointed.
Pooch was a fantastic player, will forever be an Athlone Legend, but was a great man.
