FERGAL BURKE

I had the great fortune of working with Fergal (Corky as he was called) for 5 years at Harvard where we worked as a team on many projects. Corky and I worked closely together and became friends. I relied a lot on his wonderful construction skills. He was great to work with and I was very fond of him. One day I surprised him with a bottle of Midleton whiskey. He was excited about it and after drinking it described it "It was like apple juice." When his cancer came back, he said he was very worried about his kids and how it would upset them. I wished I could offer anything to help but of course I couldn't. I left Harvard a little more than a year ago and when I heard he went back to Ireland I knew he was nearing the end. I texted him the Gaelic traditional poem Deep Peace - "Deep peace of the running wave to you, Deep peace of the flowing air to you, etc........... I wished I could offer any comfort. He was always so stoic. I felt honored when he responded back text and knew it would be the last contact with him. Dear Corky - you left a good mark on this world. I know you are at peace. I also know you are still loving your children even though you are not physically present with them. Deep Peace to you Fergal. You are missed. Francene
