Finian (Fin) Canavan

Deepest sympathy to Sally, Maeve, Clodagh and Aoife .Finian was a thorough gentleman. May Finian's Gentle Soul Rest in Peace.

Very sad at the loss of Finian, a hill-walking companion since 2000 in the CHA walking Club. On overseas treks in Scotland and Wales we were regular roommates. His regular high spirits were infectious. His obvious love for and deep pride in Sal, his daughters and grandchildren was obvious. My deepest sympathy to all the family.

To Maeve, such a big loss in your life when your dad is too tired to continue living. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

To Sally and family, I offer my heartfelt condolences on Fin's passing. I have great memories of his days in Dublin Port. Many's the time he had to cycle up from Port Centre to Custom House Docks to sort out our Computer problems. RIP Fin.

I am very sorry to learn that Finian has died. Any time I was lucky enough to be on a hike with him, it was always a happy occasion. His dry wit and humour brightened even the wettest of days. My sympathy goes out to his family.

I wish to send my sincere sympathy to Finian's family on their great loss. Finian was a great member of the walking club CHA and every one of us enjoyed his company very much. He was such good fun so I am sure his family will miss his kindness and lively presence very much. We have all been thinking about him during his illness and remembering him in our prayers.

So sorry to hear the passing of Fin. We had some great times in and outside of Badminton. Great fun to be around and always gave the best advice. He was the corner stone of the club for many years. He was a true gentleman. Our condolences to all his family.

To all the Canavan family, so sorry to learn the news of Fin’s passing. Along with everything else, he was a wonderful uncle, I have many very fond memories of Fin’s warmth and humour at family gatherings over the years. I remember one occasion particularly at Offaly Road in 1980 when he presented me with a football hand-signed by my childhood hero, Frank Stapelton – Fin had some connection with his father in Dublin. For a soccer-mad young child, prone to hero worship, this was epic. I can still vividly picture the smile on Fin’s face when he presented the gift to me. That football remained my holy grail/great treasure for quite some time. Fin was a wonderfully kind and compassionate person. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear that Finian has died. I remember the many walks that were enlivened by his company , his vast knowledge of movies and music not to mention anecdotes from his time at Dublin Port. Condolences to his family.

So sad to hear of Fin's passing. I am lucky to have worked with him in Dublin Port where he was a great boss and mentor - genuine, funny, warm and decent. I remember him always with huge fondness and affection. My sympathies to Sally and family.

Very sad news about Finian. I became friends of him as a members of HF Walking Club. His wit, good humour and wisdom made him a much loved member of the club. You could not wish for better company on a day's walk. We did several long distance walks in the UK and his high spirits jollied us along. Deepest sympathy to Sally, the girls and the rest of the family. His passing leaves a huge gap in our lives.
