My family and I having recently heard of the sad passing of Fionnbar and Frank, are sincere in expressing our deep sympathy for all our cousins who we were connected through our mother Mary Maher nee Callanan late of Churchtown, Dublin and Dovea,
Tipperary. RIP.

Dear Claire,
I am so sorry to hear about the death of Fionnbar. Our first link was a shared love of athletics and the later I was the recipient of much needed sound professional advice. I am not even sure how to add any thoughts on Frank’s sad passing.

To all the Callanan family, please accept my sincere condolences on the death of your dad Fionnbar and also the untimely death of your brother Frank. I was very sorry to hear the news, and also that your mum had passed away a couple of years ago. It seems like yesterday, but I have very happy memories of the shared holidays in Bunnow with Dermot, and also the hospitality in Sandymount when I was in school in Castleknock. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Fionnbar was Life Vice President of Athletics Ireland; renowned honorary legal adviser for many years; distinguished athlete ( 7.44 metres long jump in 1955 ); celebrated athletics photographer ; published a wonderful photographic collection in A sporting Eye in 2005; highly respected athletics statistician and a gentleman.

So sorry to hear the sad news today. I have such fond recollections of Fionnbar and Margaret from childhood and later at RDS concerts, Wexford Festival and the NCH.
