Fionuala O'Gorman

So very sorry to hear of Fionuala’s death, only just heard it today from a mutual nurse friend,
and really she is gone too soon. May she rest in peace.
I knew Fionuala when she was in CUH and later when she was in SMOH , I then, was working for a medical company and was dealing with nurses and our paths crossed again for a number of years.
She used to tell me that my late husband Garrett Fitzgerald coached her brother in rugby , he was also CBC ,so we had a connection.!
I am so sorry to hear of her death, May memories comfort you all at this very difficult time .
I think that she also had a similar diagnosis to Garrett , thinking of you at this sad time.

I worked as a medical representative in latter years and Fionuala would be telling me that my late husband Garrett Fitzgerald coached one of her brothers..we had a great relationship when she worked in the SMOH.
May memories comfort you in the days and weeks ahead . I understand what you’re going through. I believe she had a similar diagnosis to Garrett, brain tumour and there is no return….
My job went too after Garrett died due to Covid. Covid changed everything for a lot of people.

Sincerest condolences to Fionuala's family and friends. We were all saddened to hear of her passing. She was an amazing woman with such a distinct way of teaching that won't be forgotten. She has given many future nurses invaluable knowledge and will be deeply missed and cherished in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Rest in peace.

What to say about Fionaula? She always had a smile on her face, a joke to put everyone at ease, stories from her experiences as a nurse to keep people interested and most importantly her ability to pass on her expertise and knowledge to all students who walked through the door of UCC, was 2nd to none. I’m so sad to hear that Fionuala has passed away and I want to send love and comfort to her brothers John Finten and Kevin. I have very fond memories of spending wonderful holidays with the family in west cork back in the 60’s. We had such fun. Fionuala and I lost touch over the years but reading these very heartfelt condolences I can see she was so well loved and appreciated by many. Beautiful to read these messages. The 2nd year integrated nursing students are saddened to hear of Finualas passing. We are thinking of her family, friends and colleagues through this difficult time. Finuala was always a great source of knowledge and inspiration to us all during our first year, we learned things from her that we will remember for the rest of our nursing careers. Finualas extensive knowledge, compassion, as well as great sense of humour and enthusiasm inspired us all to learn, her passion for nursing was evident in every class we spent with her.

Fin and me met in London when she was the youngest senior Theatre Sister in The Hammersmith Hospital. I was a student nurse at the time. We had many great times together traveled to many distant places and Fin even came out to visit me in China.
