I shed tears of sadness on hearing of the death of Fr Ambrose, but they soon became tears of joy when I learned that he died in his beloved Bolton Abbey, of which he was the founding father, and which he had developed with such vision and vigor.

This was no easy task, but Fr Ambrose met every challenge with faith and resilience; even personal ones were faced with courage and humility, and welcomed as opportunities for growth and change. He truly grew into the beloved monk whose qualities, both human and spiritual, have been recognized and lauded in the various expressions of condolence to his family and fellow monks since his death.

I shall miss you, Fr Ambrose, for your inspiration and friendship, as shall your family, your fellow monks, your wonderful Bolton neighbours, and all for whom who have been a blessing over the years.

May the fertile soil of Bolton Abbey now rest lightly on you!

It is with sadness that I have heard of the death of Fr. Ambrose. As a Maynooth Seminarian in the seventies I visited Moone three times and was so enriched by the spirituality of Fr. Ambrose and the community. Three of us seminarians from Maynooth completed our Diaconate Retreat in 1975 and Fr. Ambrose was our Director. Bishop Noel Treanor of Down and Connor was in our group and Fr. Frank Garvey Parish Priest of Lanesboro and myself now a priest of Oakland Diocese , California. That retreat and visits were key experiences in our preparation for Ordination.
Next time in Ireland I will visit Moone to celebrate Fr. Ambrose and the community.
May he rest in peace. And may God continue to provide an oasis of peace and refreshment in Moone for all of us weary travelers. Blessings and Gratitude.
