All four of us boarded in Gormanston from 1975 until 1988 and all of us had Fr Augustine as our Caoimhnóir in Clann Padraic. He was a kind, gentle man, always willing to listen, always there encouraging us, not adverse to telling us off sometimes and a great role model for how a priest should be. He is surely cycling through the gates of heaven to take his rightful place there! All our condolences to his family, but if you can, think how lucky you were to know him for so long and be sure he is looking down on you all and will guide you from above... RIP Fr Gus
My deepest sympathy to you Jerry on the passing of your beloved brother Ralph Fr. Augustine. May he rest in peace after his life given to others and to God.
So sorry to lose a friend of long-standing. My sympathy to the Franciscan family on their sad loss.

Fr Augustine was a lovely man. Met him while working in Gormanstown College during the summer months due to my uncle Fr Felix Butler. He was friendly, always smiling and so easy to get on with. RIP
Fond memories of Gus from Gormanston. Took over from Fiachra as Caoimhnoir of Clann Mhuire for most of my time there. Drove table tennis teams all around Dublin in competitions. Always a gentleman . RIP.
Reading the words of affection on Facebook by my class mates from Gormanston 1983, Fr Augustine was dearly loved and respected by all. He had a profound impact on shaping the lives of many of us since we arrived at the college in September 1978. The values I share today with my family, friends and work colleagues were all inspired by Augustine. The list is endless, but some key ones would be honesty, integrity, independence, creativity, learning, peace and happiness. He was instrumental in making my time at Gormanston a happy place and the value of true friendship is simply priceless. Whilst we all miss Fr Gus and will treasure some great memories and give thanks that we had the pleasure of knowing a good man. He can rest assured his legacy lives on in the next generation as I now teach my grandchildren the same values so they may strive to become good people too. R.I.P my friend.
My sincere sympathies to Fr Augustines family ,I was very fond of him ,always a pleasure to meet and talk to ,RIP Fr Gus
I was sorry to hear of Fr. Augustine's death.
He was a good friend and mentor through my years at Gormanston.
He taught me about photography and life. Got me my first job.
I whiled away many happy hours in his office shooting the breeze.
A kind, no nonsense friend. Ready to lend an ear in need and a raised eyebrow when you were out of line.
Happy memories.

Very fondly remembered as my Clann Caoimhnoir, privileged to have married my wife and I, to have baptized our son, and in latter years to have been both a clergy mentor and friend. Deep condolences to surviving family and close friends within Franciscan community. May your Soul RIP.
Fr. Augustine, a true gentleman, I'm sure every student who went to Gormanston college would agree. The most likeable of people. R.I.P.
My sincere condolences to the family and friends of fr. Augustine.
I have fond memories of him from my time at Gormenston College where he was my science and religion teacher. A fair and honest man of integrity. He'll be sorely missed and will live on in our memories and stories of old.
Rest in peace good sir...
