I met Fr. Bernard recently as he popped in regularly so see my uncle, Fr. Frank O'Gara, in his final days in Gort Muire.
Fr. Bernard was so kind and attentive to Fr. Frank and he enjoyed a bit of banter with us too. He told us of his times with Fr. Frank in St. James' Hospital.
He had invited us to attend his Golden Jubilee. I turned up in Whitefriar St. this evening to mark Fr. Bernard's Golden Jubilee only to find out he had passed away vey recently. I'm sorry to hear he didn't make it to mark the big occasion.

To all Bernard's family and especially his adopted brothers in the Carmelite order. I am so sorry for your loss. We cannot afford to lose priests like Fr Bernard. I first met Bernard while working as a chaplain in Wheatfield prison. I was visiting a prisoner in hospital and met this wonderful priest walking the corridor. I whispered the lads situation and after that whenever another lad went to hospital Bernard made sure to drop in for a chat. He was a true Dub always smiling and friendly. You had a wonderful ministry Bernard may you now reap your reward. Rest in peace.

Bernard, we have been honoured to have you in our lives for all these years. Our very special brother uncle and friend . So many happy memories of the 50 mile walk in Aberystwyth when you raised just over £250. The first of many of your fund raisers. The parachute jumps, the summer fayres at Hazelwood castle. The many Dublin marathons and the blisters you suffered at the end.
. Thank you for all your love, support, friendship and advice over the many years.
Good night and God bless. Rest in peace my brother
