I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Fr Brendan’s death. I met Brendan when he was studying for his Masters. I work in Blackrock College and typed his Thesis for him. He was a gentleman and although I hadn’t seen him for about 20 years he popped into the office last year to say hello. My deepest condolences to his family and the Spiritan Community.

It is with great sadness on hearing the passing of Fr Brendan Smyth . Our deepest condolences to all of his family at this sad time . What a gentleman and kind soul he was . We feel blessed to have know him and very grateful he was able to marry Declan and myself back in 2008 . We will never forget the trip to Brussels and what great company we had showing us around and what a day we had in Gent together. My you rest in peace, forever in our hearts . Very sad to hear of our friend Fr. Brendan passing away. Sincere condolences to Carol and the Smyth family. Fr. Brendan baptised our three children and was always the most generous and cheerful of company. A true gentleman. We will miss him terribly. May he rest in peace.

During a visit to Gambia in the 1980s I met Brendan. We have mutual friends living there, the Tabbal family. He took me on a visit to Senegal. What a great Missionary priest. Light of Heaven to you Fr. Brendan.

There is no doubt , Fr. Brendan is resting in peace and he is in good company . We enjoyed his company for an all too short a time here in Bruxelles , as Pastor , Friend , spiritual guide and advisor .

So sad to hear of Fr Brendan's passing, sincere sympathy to his family. I was a member of the Folk group in Kimmage Manor in the 70s with Brendan and the other student priests. He celebrated my marriage in 93, and was a good friend to my late parents. Rest in Peace Brendan, in the arms of God.
