Deepest sympathy and condolences to the Murphy family at this time, Father Brian rarely missed a Saturday visit to my plant stall at the milk market and I was always honoured that he thought my plants were good enough for the garden at Glenstal. It's rare to meet a person as knowledgeable and also as kind and generous as he was. Deepest sympathy to the family.

We are all very sad at the death of Fr Brian, RIP. He was a noted historian but to us he was a holy priest with a wonderful common touch, an unassuming man of the people. We will forever look back with affection on his visits to the post office which were always so uplifting and inspiring.

Sincere sympathy to all Brian's relatives and his community in Glenstal Abbey. He was a gentle man to his finger tips .He was a fine historian and and he challenged the revisionist historians such as Hart and Murphy and he will be vindicated in future years. I spent many hours with him in his Biblical garden and I commend him for his tree planting to honour the executed leaders of the 1916 Rising and Winnie Barrington of Glenstal , who was inadvertently killed in the War of Independence .Dílis don fírinne, don stair, agus an tír

Shocked and saddened at Father Brian’s passing. - only spoke with him last week. A prolific author and letter writer to the Irish Times and Limerick Leader. His last letter to the Leader on the King John’s castle controversy regarding the change of name was very interesting. He advocated the retention of King John’s name as he ordered the castle to be built in the first place. He enjoyed his visits to the Milk Market every Saturday morning. My sincere condolences to his esteemed family and the Benedictine community at Glenstal. May he have eternal peace.
