One of my dearest friends - can only be described "as a man of God"
I am forever grateful to him for his his remarkable description of Heaven:-
"Heaven -an everlasting instant of ecstasy"
"Heaven- a moment of ecstatic love which will never end, and of which you can never be deprived" ( I got this published in the USA-in the renowned "Wanderer" newspaper )

Very sad to hear of the death of Fr. Columban O.C.S.O. Sincere sympathy to the community at Mount Melleray Abbey. May he rest in peace.
While I never met Fr. Columban, his name (Denis Heaney) was a name I heard very often in my family home in the Waterside, Derry. My sister (Sr. Una Burke) often visited Fr. Columban from her community house in Midleton Co. Cork. She spoke of him with great reverence, for his guidance and spirituality which he extended to her. Fr. Columban joins Sr. Una now in their united joy in the glory of the Lord.
May he rest in peace.

My sincerest condolences to Abbot Richard and the Community at Mount Melleray on the passing of Father Columban to his eternal reward. I have known him with my wife and family for about 50 years and always found him gentle, courteous, friendly and always helpful to those he came in contact with. He was an exemplar of commitment to the Cistercian life that he was devoted to and of tbe God that sought him out. May he rest in peace.
We met in the early 1960's when Fr. Columban had to spend some time in Cork. I was glad to unearth some St. Columb's College family connections, and a family friendship continued to this day. RIP.

Sincere sympathy to Fr Columban's family and all the monastic community at Mount Melleray on his death at this challenging time. May he rest in eternal peace.
It’s with great sadness that we heard the news of Fr Columban’s passing. He and our mother, Geraldine Walsh/ Eaton, were lifelong friends since their childhood in Derry, where Mammy’s cousin, Fr Jim McCabe, and Fr Columban/ Denis Heaney were best friends.
Geraldine and Fr Columban never lost touch over the years; their correspondence only dwindling in the past year, due to ill health on both sides. We fondly remember trips to Mount Melleray with our late father, Eddie Eaton, where we were always warmly welcomed by the community.
Although Geraldine is now in a nursing home here in Dublin, and our communication is limited at this strange time, I know that she will be extremely sorry to hear of the demise of the friend she held in such high regard. May he rest in peace.
With deepest sympathy to all of the Cistercian community,
From the Eaton family.
