Ballyfermot Memories of Fr. Dave
The man in the black soutane, driving through Ballyer in his wine Datsun Urvan; Lady, Butch and Come 'ere his beloved pets; 40 major and a bottle of coke from the garage; Fishing at the Ninth Lock in Clondalkin, at Leixlip reservoir, Kilcock and Robertstown in Kildare; 10 pin bowling in XL Bowl; McDonald's shamrock shakes on Paddy's Day; O'Meara's in Crumlin for the 2nd hand tent; the camping trips to Enfield, swimming in the Royal Canal as the trains whizzed by; making sandwiches for the trips to Skerries- 2 coach loads of wild kids! World Cup 90, flying around on the waltzers and Jackie's Army blasting out on the speakers; the brown Fiat Mirafiori, the yellow Renault 4 - sprayed white, the Escort and Fiesta; 5 a sides in the field while the bands practiced in the shed; barbecues in the back garden; trips to the garden centre, the trips to Knock; St. John's college and the morning masses; carols under the street lights and the Carol service in the wine cassocks; Christmas eve in the convent with selection boxes for all; The trip to Sunday's Well in Cork; His classic phrases: 'good man' and 'more power to ye' his constant words of encouragement.  No need to panic or make a fuss: 'No harm', he'd say. With Fr. Dave we felt happy, safe, reassured, valued, but most of all - loved. He made our childhoods special with memories we will cherish forever. Fr. Dave Lumsden was an extraordinary man and a magnificent priest. We will keep his memory alive.
Dave Lumsden was the link between Dublin & Cashel in 1990 when Seamus and myself started in St. Matthew's parish. A man in touch with the people and a great link with the priests of Dublin. A great way to begin life as a priest in parish life. His knowledge and kindness knew no bounds. He touched the hearts of so many that might otherwise be turned away. "No problem" seemed to be Dave's motto and he gave himself willing to many.
May he rest in peace.
Fr David you will be sadly missed, such a wonderful priest who helped so many, thank you, rest in peace. My condolences to your family.

Peter and family, I am so sorry to hear of your sad loss. Your brother/uncle has left such a positive legacy, it was a life well lived and that really is the whole point isn’t it? Peter, I trust you will take good care of Toby. Coffee/tea in UCD was never complete without a Toby story. May your family take solace in the memory of a good man who was an influence for good and it seems lived his best life. RIP Fr. Dave.
So sorry to hear this sad news

Fr. Dave was always sorely missed when he would be transferred from one parish to another, such was the impact and the legacy of his ministry.

Our family will always be greatful to Fr. Dave for the comfort and support given to us when we lost our son Stephen to SADS in 2007.

May your reward in Heaven be truly great.
Sincere Sympathy Paul, Paula and all the Lumsden Family on the loss of your brother Fr. Dave Rip.
I knew David many years ago when we were all teenagers and in our early 20s in Walkinstown. He was such kind happy guy and it was my pleasure to have known him . Judging by all the tributes he found his true vocation and was a wonderful priest . My sympathy to all the Lumsdan family . May David rest in peace .
Father Lumsden married myself and my husband 28 years ago in St. Matthews Church, Ballyfermot. He was a lovely man and was missed in Ballyfermot when he relocated.

May he rest in peace
Sad to hear of the loss of Fr Dave. He was a gent. When we were getting married, he completed our letters of freedom, when my partner went to give him money as an offering, he politely refused telling Mick he'd need his few bob! How right was he. He baptised both my girls too. R.I.P. Fr Dave.
The Stapleton Family

Deepest sympathies to all the Lumsden family at this difficult time
Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Fr Dave.
He was truly the kindest person I've had the pleasure to meet. Always had lots of time for everyone. Loved a good chat and great man for the banter. A true Dub and a gent.
Everyone in Edenmore will be feeling the loss of this great man.
My condolences to his family. RIP
Father David was a wonderful man and priest, he was so kind and helpful to me when I worked with him in my capacity as chaplain in Ardscoil La Salle Raheny, his commitment to the Gospel and his deep love and service to those in his community will not forgotten. May father David rest now amongst the saints in heaven and may he continue to intercede for us. A 'Gentle Giant' of a man who will live on forever in our hearts.
We were very sorry to hear of Fr. Dave’s passing. We got to know and love Fr. Dave from the First Communions in Scoil an Duinnínigh in Kinselay, where he brought hope, charm and real Christian love to his spreading of the Gospel. He made those very special events for the children.
Sagart álainn, ionraic lách ab ea an t-Athair Dave, agus tá súil againn gurb ar dheis lámh Dé a thá sé, áit a bhfuil beatha síorraí tuillte aige.
To Gerard, John, Peter, Dominic and Paul,
I can't find the words to tell you how sorry I am on the passing of your brother, Father Dave. He was a neighbour, a friend, a ray of light on a dark day and an absolute joy to be around.
Father Dave helped my family more than he knew when my dad was dying last year. He took some of the pain and sadness away from what was an incredibly difficult time for my family.
Father Dave was an incredible person and I truly believe that he was an angel sent to us. I'm grateful for the time that I knew him, and sorry that I didn't know him for longer. It was said that if you ever went away from the church, Father Dave would bring you back--and he did. He blessed and touched so many lives. I know that he is looking down on you all, and especially Toby.
I think the fire alarm was only Father Dave messing and showing you that he's still around, more power to him.
I just heard the sad news today. So sorry to hear of Fr David's passing. He worked with my late husband, Maurice Carey in the Civil Service. They were great pals. Maurice also knew John. It is with the saddest of regrets that we learn of your death. You came into my life as a friend of my late husband Pat and I say friend not just priest. A year later you celebrated our marriage and a couple of years after that you christened our son Sean. It broke your heart as it did mine when you were again standing on the alter in the Church of the Nativity, Beaumont for Pat's funeral mass, with you celebrating his young life when he was taken away so suddenly. I have no doubt that you are both together in heaven looking down on us. Thank you for the strength you gave me. I hope you are at peace now that you are out of pain. Rest in Peace Father Dave, Pauline & Sean

RIP Uncle Dave, you will be incredibly missed by all❤️ thank you for being the kindest soul to bless all of our lives ❤️
"More Power to You" by Gina Lumsden.

The beauty of God’s power,
Can be seen with a simple scan.
Through the growth of a blooming flower,
Or through the kindness of one man.

Fr. Dave, an uncle, a friend, a son
Also one of six brothers,
One of God’s best helpers,
Tirelessly helping and supporting others.

Memories through the years with him,
As a niece, I have a fair few,
No matter what one did in life,
He’d say “More power to you!”

Regardless of what you needed,
Dave would help you to get through,
Never once judging,
Only saying “More power to you”

Alas, the time has come,
And much to our sorrow this is true
To return to Him, and looking over us
Always saying “More Power to You”.
❤️
a true dublin gent
Rest in peace, Fr. Dave. If anyone gets straight into heaven it’s you. You epitomised everything good about humanity and About priesthood. Such a warm, kind, non-judgemental, compassionate funny and sincere man. Thank you for making such a massive difference in my life and in the lives of so many others.
Uncle Dave, thank you so much for all your support and guidance over the years. We feel truly blessed to have had you celebrate our wedding ceremony, and to have had the privilege of calling you an uncle.
Your unwavering faith and relentless strength is an inspiration to us all and we are so proud of you. You will live on forever in our hearts, as we strive to emulate even a fraction of the love, empathy and Christianity that you embodied every day of your life.
We love you so much. Enjoy your well earned rest now, we take comfort knowing that you are finally at peace. Sleep well, until we meet again. More power to you.

It was a privilege to call you my best friend Dave. Through thick and thin you were always there for me and my family. You were the man who taught me to fish, got me interested in cars and probably gave my first 'driving lesson' . Serving with you as an altar boy many years ago was an education in itself and always lighthearted, you never took things too seriously. You married and christened most of the Brady family and would always appear at my Ma's table every Tuesday night for her famous 'ribs'. I used to love going to Skerries every Sunday with you to your mother's for the day in good company with John & Paul as well. You had a most interesting way of saying Mass and always available for anyone in trouble or need. Your dogs were very important too. Hope 'c'mere', butch and lady are up there minding you. Deepest sympathy to John, Peter, Paul & Dominic and the Lumsden family. We will meet again someday. Sincere thoughts to them at this very sad time. Dermo (Brazer) Brady.
So sorry to hear of Fr. Dave's passing, may he rest in peace. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
Dave always called me ‘Biscuit,s‘ as did his Mam Agnes. I have very fond memories of our fun times in the Seminary and after,. Even though I have not seen Dave in a few years I oftentimes remembered him when visiting Skerries. To you all I want to extend my sincere and heartfelt condolences on the death of a truly gifted and humble man; but most especially an exemplary Priest. Rest In Peace Dave, Till we meet again. ‘Biscuit’s’
Deepest condolences to Gerry and all the Lumsden family.
The Duffy family of claddagh green wish to extend their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Father Dave. He was much loved especially by my mother Mabel who passed on her deepest sympathy.
Very sad when we were advised of the death of Fr. Dave. Such a kind, caring person and full of good humour. You will be missed in St.Benedict's, Grange Park. Our sympathies to the Lumsden family.
Rest in peace Fr. Dave. Such a lovely man. Our deepest sympathy to the Lumsden family.
Dave must have done thousands of christenings, marriages and funerals, but he always made each one feel unique in his own inimitable way, with the thought and care he put in to every word. He certainly did that for the christenings of two of my sons, Louis and Philippe, and at Dad’s funeral (his Uncle Larry). And what a character too! I was happy to be able to see the funeral mass from Montreal by web cam. My condolences to the family. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.
Rest in Peace Fr Dave. You were a True Dub.
John,
