Fr. Denis was one of my closest confidants. A Ballycullane parishioner, we shared a lot in common and he was always supportive in my discerning of ministry.
We kept a photograph of his first ordination mass in our Family missile which remains intact to this day.
I was privileged to see first hand the impact Fr. Denis’s unique ministry had on the underprivileged in Recife , during his mission one of his many friends, Donna Maria, a kind and unassuming soul with a unique talent of the finest cuisine’s.
We travelled to many of his beautiful liturgy’s, sometimes carrying me on the back of his pushbike. As we stumbled over the many miles of dirt tracks, I can still hear his loud laughter “ hold tight Maggie, we won’t give up that easy. I was privileged to sing at his masses and while they may not have understood, unbeknownst to me a great bond was formed, but it was a trip to Joao Pesso,was to have the most profound impact. Denny as he was widely known, introduced me to Sr. Martina who worked tirelessly in the community, introduced me to Pastoral Ministry. One of Denny’s favourite songs played many times during those long hot summer evenings, while Donna Maria perfected her dish was by Logue & Mc Cool, This is where the Cowboy rides away.
It was with a heavy heart I left Brazil to commence my studies at The Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy in Dublin.

We, here in Brazil, had the privilege of spending time with Fr Denis. And we were deeply touched by this human being that had such a great and generous soul.

For you, his stay in Brazil may have been a long time away from home, given how much he was missed. But, for us, it was short and intense. Even with so much distance, we share with you the pain, the suffering and the longing - a longing that has been with us for so long. But we also
share the certainty that he is with the Father, which is where the good ones will remain.

Thank you so much Ireland, Wexford and the Doyle Family for allowing us to know and to live with Fr Denis. We believe that this pain that we all now feel will one day turn into a sweet longing, and when we remember him, it will be with a smile appearing on our faces.

Fr Denis Doyle built bridges everywhere he went. Bridges so extensive that not even geographical distances could separate the bonds of friendship that he created. And, you can be sure, the limits of life will not separate the bonds (and bridges) of the soul.

Back in Easter 2016 we spent a 2 week holiday in Kilmore. Fr. Denis, your pastor, left an imprint on our hearts forever. We still talk about him to family & friends.
The beautiful Easter Sunday Dawn Mass, celebrated on the beach in Kilmore Quay, the Easter tridium in St. Mary's Church, followed by attending the Children's Mass on our 2nd Sunday this was truly something we will never forget. To see this wonderful human being with the children was a sight to behold.
Upon introducing ourselves to him after a morning celebration, we ended up drinking tea in his kitchen.
Truly one of a kind.

Heartfelt condolences to the Doyle and Conway families at the sad passing of Fr. Denis. He was truly a wonderful man and a great ally to the poor and downtrodden of our world. His work and determination helped to build schools and churches while he served as a Missionary in Brazil. He will be remembered there with love and affection as he will in all the parishes in his own county that he ministered in. We pray that the great esteem in which he was held will be a consolation to his family in their grief and no doubt people will continue to pray to him and ask him to intercede with the good Lord for them and knowing Fr. Denis he wouldn't take No for an answer. May he rest easy in the soil of his birthplace and may Heaven reward him for his unselfish dedication to all his parishioners.

Fr. Denis was a wonderful priest, a priest for the people and the youth of Wexford. He gave the youth a purpose. We have many fond memories of the top of the town shows with him at the helm. He has left a great legacy and will be missed.
