So sorry to hear about Fr Des and deepest sympathies to his family. He had a very large family in the Defense Forces, looked out for all of them and always had time to have a chat or to help where he could with a smile.
Rest in Peace Fr. Des, and thank you for being a Good Shepard.
I was shocked to read that Fr. Des has passed away. I got to know him many years ago while working with a Car Rental Company & he rented a vehicle to collect some furniture. My husband & I had just purchased our first home of which he was aware & when he returned from his trip he called me outside to show me some perfect single beds & in his funny way told me they were virgin beds collected from a convent & gave them to me & delivered them personally. I won't elaborate any further as to what else he said. He was the most beautiful pious man despite his roguery. I had enquired about him recently from my sister in law who's husband was in the Navy & had passed away but unfortunately Fr Des was unable to do his Mass. If I had known he was in hospital I would have visited him. No doubt he will get the best bed in heaven. Fr Des rest in peace, your work on earth is done. 🙏🌹

A wonderful priest and gentleman i am so glad to have known fr des for many many years God bless his holy soul.
"We mourn the loss of a remarkable soul who was more than a priest—he was a father figure to many, a guiding light in times of darkness, and a true servant of God and humanity. His unwavering support and kindness touched the lives of countless individuals, including my family, during our most challenging moments.

Having served with honor in the Navy, he carried the same discipline, strength, and humility into his pastoral work, dedicating his life to helping others. Loved by everyone who knew him, his compassion, wisdom, and generosity will forever remain in our hearts.

Though his absence leaves an irreplaceable void, his legacy of love, faith, and service continues to inspire. Rest in peace, Father desmond campion. You were a beacon of hope and will always be remembered with love and gratitude."
Rest in peace, Des

So so sorry to hear Fr Des had passed. You were a great friend of many many years, to my dad, Dr Kevin Roberts (recently deceased) Fr Des officiated at my dads funeral, we wanted it to be a celebration of his life and Fr Des made it that! I even heard someone say " is it bad to say but that was a fabulous funeral "!!
Fr Des, Fr Mick and Fr Gerry all officiated at my wedding too, and the craic afterwards was mighty. Thanks for the wonderful memories, you were one of a kind and we were all blessed to have had you in our lives. Rest in peace
Fr Des.
Ann and Jim Martin offer their sincere sympathies to Miriam, Declan, Bernard and families on the death of your brother Dessie. To Jim he was a brother and a friend since the 1960's in India and to Ann he was a friend since 1970 in Walkinstown, Crumlin and Maynooth. His wit, generosity, friendship and honesty knew no bounds. Although he was far away at times he always seemed to pop up when he was needed and we just took up where we had left off on his previous visit. We will miss his stories, his laugh and his affection. Dessie, we are all better for knowing you. You will be in our hearts for ever.

I meet Fr Des on only 2 occasions but he left a huge impression on me.

The first was at a Naval Wedding where he was specifically asked for to celebrate the marriage as quote "you never knew what he was going to say"

The second was at a baptism where he gave all the young children little jobs to do like giving out leaflets or getting them to do readings.

He said if the were involved they are less board and not playing on the phones.

He had plenty of short stories to tell and share.

Fr Des your watch has ended your duty is done.

Rest in Peace and thank you.

Such a beautiful character.
He was the officiant of our wedding in 2003. He was more popular than the Bride and Groom. Everyone loved him.
We met again in Lourdes some years later on a military pilgrimage. So much laughter and praying of course!
RIP Fr. Des.
Sorry to hear Fr. Des has passed away. I remember him as a good and kind man. May he rest in peace.
We briefly met Fr Des when he said our Dad, Tom’s service at Island Crematorium. We didn’t know who would be saying the service ahead of time & Fr Des warmly spoke to us & after seeing Dad’s photo told us that they served together in Collins Barracks. Fr Des’ kindness & empathy, as well as his pride in his work, was very evident to us all on the day. He brought comfort to our family during a very difficult time & we can only hope that his family receives some of the same comfort as they mourn him. We express our sincere condolences to all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
