I was saddened to learn of the death of Fr Gabriel. He was my housemaster and teach of history and music to me at Austin Friars School (1960 - 1966). He was more than a teacher to me and was my mentor and made me the person I am. I met him in Dublin five years ago and, though physically frail, his mind was razor sharp as ever. The world is a poorer place for his loss.
Condolences on the loss of Fr.Daly, an absolute gentleman. May he rest in peace.
Fr. Gabriel will be much missed by the St. Gerard's School Community. We thoroughly enjoyed his visit to us last October (2022) for a trip down memory lane.
Paula,
Very sorry to learn of your brother’s death - he will be greatly missed in the Irish church.
We have lost touch I’m afraid but I do often think of you. - I’m now living in Scotland, near Inverness with my daughter and her family.
Will remember you and all the family in my prayers.
Dear Paula and family, I was very sorry to hear of Conor's passing. May he rest in peace. Sincere sympathy Frances
Paula, sending our deepest sympathies to you, the Daly family and Augustinian community on Conor’s passing. Leonard, Sarah and the Little family.
Sincere sympathy to Paula and family, and all the friars in Ballyboden and Ireland. I had the privilege to know Gabriel when I studied philosophy, he always encouraged us to think critically, and gave us a love of theology.
Fr. Gabriel Daly was my history tutor in UCD 1969/'70 approx, he was encouraging, warm hearted with a big smile and good sense of humour , a thoroughly decent human being. I have never forgotten him. Sincere condolences to his family and his Augustinian confreres.
So sad to hear of the passing of one of the biggest influences in my life. Fr. Gabriel was my Stafford Housemaster from 1959 to 1966 in Austin Friars, Carlisle. He taught me so much, most of which I have been trying to live up to ever since. A great man who will be sorely missed. May he rest in the peace he so richly deserves.
Deepest sympathy to the Daly family and the Augustinian Order on the passing of a truly inspirational friar, a theologian in the mould of his Order's founder the great St. Augustine. Fr. Gabriel had a vision of Church that could not stand still and had to envision change and grapple with complex pastoral issues - his influence will assist many like minded theologians to achieve progress and unity among the people of God.
May he enjoy eternal rest in the Heavenly home.
Deepest sympathy to Gabriel’s family, community and many friends. I got to know Gabriel through our mutual friend Sean Fagan. Gabriel also supported our ecumenical efforts in Clontarf Church of Ireland. May Gabriel’s wisdom and insight live on through his inspirational writings.
May he rest in eternal peace
Deepest sympathy to the Augustinians.
I am of the generation that viewed some of his “Outlook” late night broadcasts.
In an era when computers were relatively new, he drew a comparison between a conscience and a computer by saying that the output of both was reflected by what was fed in.
The comparison has remained with me
My sincere sympathy to Gabriel's family and Augustinian friars. Gabriel taught me in Milltown Institute. I remember Gabriel's ability to 'stretch and challenge ' our thinking on many subjects. His breath of thought, plus his humour, are memories which remain with me. Finally he was a man of gospel courage. We were blest to have known him.
So sorry to learn of Fr. Gabriel's death. My sincere sympathy to his family and Augustinian community. Gabriel was a fine theologian and a person of deep humanity. The Irish church is the poorer for his passing.
Sincere condolences to Fr. Gabriel's family and his Augustinian brothers. We remember him with great fondness as a kind and caring friar, and his wonderful sermons which we really appreciated. May he Rest In Peace.
Sincere sympathy to Fr Gabriel’s family and to his Augustinian Confreres on their great loss.

I first remember in the early ‘70’s, Fr Gabriel’s ‘Outlook’ - a prayerful thought for the night, just before Telefís Éireann shut down at 11.30pm.

I later remember in the early ‘80’s, a riveting discussion on radio with Gay Byrne outlining his vision for the future Church, post Vatican Two. He caused a stir but it was his great dream!

Thank you Fr Gabriel for your gentleness and great wisdom.

Rest peacefully.
So sorry to hear of Gabriel's death.
A most generous and wise teacher and a kind friend. He was a courageous theologian who spoke truth to the institutional church when his conscience believed there were grounds for doing so.

His learning, courage and integrity were an inspiration.

Sincere condolence to his family and Augustinian confrères.

May he rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to the Daly family and the Augustinian Community on the death of Fr Gabriel. May he rest in peace
Thinking of all Fr Gabriel’s family at this sad time. I have some great memories while looking after him in St Augustines. May you rest in peace Gabriel
What a wonderful man. How he helped us with his written thoughts and poetry. May he Rest In Peace.
My condolence to the family
Father Daly was a lovely man he made time for everyone, and especially our children when they were young we all loved him.may he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy on the death of Fr Gabriel to his family and the Augustinian Order. He was a brilliant theologian and communicator. who made a major contribution to deepening our understanding of our faith in today's world. He showed great courage in calling out the CDF for the ways they treated theologians, especially his friend and colleague, Sean Fagan. It is fitting that he lived to experience the pontificate of Pope Francis and, hopefully, a new era for the Church to which he dedicated his life. May he rest in peace.
My sincere condolence to his Augustinian confrères and his family. He made his mark on time and history. I remember primarily his well-crafted sermons of such high quality. May he rest in peace. Amen.
Deepest sympathy to FrDalys family and the Augustinian Community.Fr Daly was a wonderful spiritual guide to many people and we all were enriched by his writings and his teaching May he rest in the peace of Christ Mass offered for him Condolences Dan OConnor Ringsend

Sorry to hear of the passing of Gabriel a lovely man & inspirational friar. My sincere sympathies to his family & Augustians
My condolences to Paula,John and the family as well as his Augustinian community. I remain very grateful to Gabriel for his courageous support for me and women's ordination from the 1990's when it was dangerous for a Catholic theologian to do so publicly.I am sure Gabriel is now enjoying wonderful conversations in Heaven. A life well lived.
My deepest sympathy to Fr Gabriel's brother and sister and extended famiy and to his Augustiian confrerers. I worked with Fr Gabriel in the Milltown Institute of Theology for some years. May he rest in pace. Fr Martin McNamara MSC
