We were so sorry to have learned too late of Fr. Gay's passing. We got to know him through a mutual friend over 20 years ago. He performed our wedding ceremony which was so special to share it with a friend. Then when our 2 daughter's arrived he performed both their christenings, it made those occasions even more significant having him there & being able to catch-up with him & with our friends he knew too.
He was a man I remember who always had a smile on his face & time to chat.
He had such a zest for life & adventure & had many funny stories to tell. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him a beautiful soul. Rest in peace Fr. Slattery
Slán, a chara. Tá tú ar shlí na fírinne anois. Guímid síochán agus sólás ort i measc an naomh.

Mary, Brendan, family and friends of Fr Gay Slattery. We’ve variously known Fr Gay for the last 32 years and belatedly learned with immense sadness of his passing.

He was a kind and generous man - full of positivity and energy. Conversations with him were infused with great stories of his travels, his learnedness and his insight. We shared many memories over the years and he celebrated our marriage and christenings along with those of friends too.

Please accept our sincere condolences.
Gareth, Niamh, Fiafhlaith and Dara
Mary and Maurice, so sorry to hear about the passing of your dear brother, Gabriel. I know he so enjoyed his times with you especially in France and Wexford and you will miss him so dreadfully. May he rest in peace and may you both get some comfort from remembering all the wonderful times you all had together.
So sorry to hear about Gabe’s passing fantastic guy met him in ballinteer in the 1990’s and he married me in Spain in the 2000’s R.I.P. such a great priest and friend.
My sincere condolences to Mary, Brendan & all the Slattery family on the passing of Fr. Gay . May he rest in peace.
I am very sad to hear of the death of Gay Slattery. I got to know him almost 50 years ago in Clonliffe and in 1976 we visited Rome (with Frank Herron) and travelled across Europe back to Ireland. He was a lovely, kind, generous, inspiring and warm hearted man and the world was a better place for his presence. I am grateful for the fact that I knew Gay and he was my friend for many years. My sincere sympathy to his family members. May he now rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy Mary and to your family on the death of your dear brother, Fr Gabriel. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences on the death of Gay. We both knew him for very many years, as a teacher, colleague, friend and priest. His good humour, vivacious company, religious faith, kindness, laughter and intellect brightened many a day for us. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
Comhbhrón leis an teaghlach.
Gay was a lovely, caring and polite man. We have lovely memories of great times here in Donegal. He always gave good advice, had a great eye for decor and even helped us choose a name for our house. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam Uasal.
I was so very sorry to learn of Gay's death. We were classmates in Blackrock and, together with the late Maurice Reidy and Sean Mundow, also from 'Rock, went to Clonliffe in 1961, where I spent a year.
There was a nobility of character about Gay from his earliest days. He radiated joy and optimism. I think he never ceased to marvel at just how wonderful life can be and that joie-de-vivre was infectious. He was quite simply a very good man and the world is a better place for his having been here and a sadder one for his leaving.
Sincerest sympathy to Gay's family. May his gentle soul rest in the reward the goodness of his life deserves.
Sincere Condolences to Mary and Brendan and your families at the sad passing of Gay.

I always remember him in my Clonliffe days as a priest, who encouraged you no end, to always look at everything positively, never to give up and always strive to pursue knowledge and wisdom through academics and lived experiences founded on faith.

Thank you Gay for all you did for me personally and for many others.

You instilled a great enthusiasm for life within me.

I pray that your vibrancy of personality, your genuine concern for others and your ability to simplify the most complicated of things will continue to live on in modern times.

Slan agus Beannacht, Ar dheis De go raibh d'anam dilis go deo.
My deepest sympathy to you Mary Maurice Catherine and all your family on the very sad news of the death of Father Gabriel.
May he enjoy everlasting peace.

Comhbhrón ó chroí to Mary, Brendan, and all the family on Gay's passing. He was a terrific person, great company and a very inspirational mentor and tutor to so many down the years. He loved the human condition and the divinity that went with that as part of our faith. He will be greatly missed, and the sadness that accompanies his illnesses is a timely reminder to cherish each day.

Deepest condolences on the passing of Father Gabriel, a good and faithful priest, whom I got to know well during his years in Ballinteer Parish. Beloved by schoolchildren and parishioners alike, his enthusiasm for sports, particularly athletics, was especially evident. Indeed, in the Millennium year 2000 he introduced me to the Eternal City of Rome, with which he had a deep affinity, and also to its many treasures. May his noble and gentle soul rest eternally at the Lord's right hand in the light of His perfect peace.
A sad farewell to a very caring and supportive man. Whether to a wedding in England or a trip to Leonardo da Vinci home in Italy Gay was there as a friend. May you rest in peace my friend. In thanksgiving for your enthusiasm for life. Condolences to your family at your passing.
Gay was a wonderful friend and priest whom I've known for some 55 years + He was always helpful, kind and sensitive to the needs of others and looked after for his friends, as I remember well when he invited me to teach logic to the Clonliffe students a number of years ago. Very sincere condolences to all his family - it was a great privilege today to have been present at his funeral Mass which honoured his good priestly life. Now he is safe in the hands of God.

Just heard of Gay's passing! Wasn't aware of his illness! Was ordained with him! He was a wonderful priest and human being! A caring and considerate friend! His family will not remember me but I stayed in his house in Mt Merrion after we received our BA in UCD! I will always remember him with love and affection! May his gentle soul rest in the piece of his Lord!
Deepest sympathies to Mary,Brendan and all Gay’s family, friends and brother priests. So sorry to hear of his passing, May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to Brendan and Mary, and all Fr. Gay's family and friends. As a student in Holy Cross, Clonliffe back in the '70s / '80s I have a clear memory of a man and priest who was essentially decent, kind and possessing a constant cheerfulness. While Lonergan and Voegelin were reference points for him, he encouraged his students to follow their own enquires and to trust where that might lead. Thank you. May you now experience the fulness of God's love, the Biblical Shalom.
Sincere sympathy to the Slattery family. Fond memories of Gay and our happy times together. Spain springs to mind. May you now enjoy your heavenly home with the Lord.
Sincere condolences to all the family. RIP Fr. Slattery. We will miss his visits to Gaoth Dobhair greatly.

Lead kindly light amid the encircling gloom. Lead Thou him on ….

I am very saddened to hear of Gay's passing. He was a close friend for many years to both me and my family, giving freely of his time with kindness and love.  We lost touch in more recent years and this I regret. I intended to get in touch many times but failed to follow through and now it is too late. Farewell Gay, I will always remember all you did for me. Dao
Sincere sympathy to Mary and Brendan and extended family.
Condolences to all the family, we enjoyed his company when he came to stay with our mother and father , one of the memories that stick in our minds , the tick tock of the clock had to be stopped by him on his way to his room for a good nights sleep.
Sincerest Sympathies to the Slattery Family circle. I was a philosophy student under Dr, Gay from 1976 to 1978, I always had great admiration for his radiant charisma and sincere and confidential help when we needed it.
May he continue to be loved and cherished by our Lord and God.
Mary. My thoughts are with you and family at this sad time.

Gabriel was a classmate of mine in Blackrock College & was a good friend. He was a bright student and an outstanding athlete, being part of the team that holds the 4x110 yards Irish Relay team record. We lost contact after school but renewed friendship at the class reunion about 10 years ago.
Since then he joined myself & friends on a week long boat trips on the Shannon, Barrow, and Shannon-Erne system, where he fitted in perfectly with the “Old Stagers”.His celebration of Mass in the open air, on the river bank each year was memorable. I will miss him terribly.

I am so saddened to hear of Gay's death and send deep sympathy to you, Brendan and Mary. The news brought back memories of Gay's holiday visits to Kilfinane and mine to your home in Mount Merrion all those years ago.

May he rest in peace.
It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of my friend Fr Gabriel. I wish to offer my deepest sympathy to his family. I have known Fr Gabriel for many years - since he came to Ballinteer parish. He was a very kind, gentle and courteous person and he was much loved. He was great company and my friend Peggy Crowley and I spent some very happy times with him over the years. Go raibh a anam dílis i measc na naomh.
Our condolences to Gay s family on his death. We have fond memories of his retreats with the Glasthule folk group in Glencree and his introduction of the idea of having a KK.
Deepest condolences to Brendan and Mary and all the Slattery family on Fr. Gay's passing. May he rest in peace.
Our sincere condolences to Mary and Brendan and the extended slattery family on the passing of Fr. Gabriel. We came to know Fr. Gabriel when he moved to St. John the Baptist in 2001 as the parish priest. In 2007, Fr. Gabriel officiated at our wedding. Unknows to us at the time he was fluent in many languages. Yelena’s family were residing in Germany and spoke very little English. At the rehearsal for the wedding when Fr. Gabriel became aware of this, he launched straight into German and made the day for everyone. During the ceremony he spoke in German to include all and it was an extremely appreciated gesture which we will always treasure. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Gabriel was a good friend to my late father Denis. A friendship forged on numerous shared boating adventures on The Shannon and beyond. A lovely man. May Gabriel rest in peace.
I had the absolute privilege of knowing Gabriel from when he joined St John The Baptist's in Clontarf in the early 2000's. We hit it off and would regularly be found having pizza and a glass of wine in many different local establishments.

He performed our wedding ceremony in Louth in 2006 and we stayed in touch over the years, especially when we were in Wexford.

Gabriel was an amazing person, a dedicated priest and a real family man who loved getting back to Mount Merrion whenever he could.

Rest in peace Gabriel.
