Very sorry to hear of Gerry's death worked with him in our lady's in kakuma turkana he was so helpful to me only just hearing of his death now may he rest in peace

Fr. Gerry O'Carroll SPS was one of the most inspiring, impressive and hard- working missionary priests I was privileged to know. He had a profound respect for the people of Turkana, knew their language well, respected their culture, worked untiringly for their wellbeing and saw Turkana as his second home. Gerry was a great favourite with us - the Medical Missionaries of Mary- and no wonder: he was generous and helpful to a fault. I deeply regret not having known of his death. This is a funeral I would have liked to attend. Rest in peace wonderful man, admirable priest, holy missionary!

My heartfelt sympathy to all who are mourning the loss of fr Ger. On my visits to Knock I used to always ask for him in the confessional. An encounter with him as Jesus Shepherd always resulted in me coming away so happy. Fr Ger was so special may Jesus give him a bed in heaven. Ar dheis de go raibh ahanam. The death of Fr Ger has touched the hearts of many, many people, here in Ireland and. even more so, in his beloved Turkana. His deep faith, his humanity, his strength of purpose as well as his extraordinary physical and mental strength made him a man apart and all this coupled with a deep humility. We are truly proud that our little rural parish of Ballyrush has given all of us such a shining example of humanity at its best. We are certain that he was met with open arms and the words "Well done thou good and faithful servant" on his arrival above. He now rests in the peace he has so totally earned. Gone, Ger, but certainly not forgotten.

He was a very strong and determined minded person but above all a very devout and kind Priest/Confessor. He went above and beyond with his duties for us the Confessional staff. I first met Gerry around 1989 in Kakuma in the Turkana district of Kenya and was immediately impressed with what he had accomplished as a missionary. We often use the word 'legend' to describe somebody for what they have achieved in life and some don't deserve the title but in Gerry's case it is absolutely the correct term to use. He was a true legend and a most unassuming man. His contribution to missionary life as a Kiltegan father was enormous and he will be fondly remembered.
