My deepest sympathy to Fr Hugh's family and to his Redemptorist confreres in the Philippines and Ireland. I met him many times during visits to Cebu and admired his courage and his good humour. May he enjoy the fulness of life with St Alphonsus Liguori.

I met Fr Hughie during my time volunteering with SERVE in Cebu in 2019. I stayed in the monastery and Fr Hughie would often greet Daire and myself each evening at the front door, usually with a witty one liner! He enjoyed sitting out and watching all the goings on and chatting to anyone who arrived. I had some lovely chats about our beloved Kerry and about his life and work in Cebu which he was so passionate about.
