Deepest sympathies to the Keaney family, the Jesuit community, Joe's parishioners in Zambia, and his many friends. We only heard of his death a few days ago as his last communication was in January. We met Joe first as a student in UCD (he was auditor of the Archaeological Society at one stage) and remained good friends since then - he was so kind, keeping in touch and visiting his many friends on his returns to Ireland. We were so saddened to learn of his very painful illness - which he bore so stoically - and his death. May he rest in peace. He carried God's love with him everywhere.
Deepest sympathies to all the Keaney family. Joe was such a special person in your lives. A beloved brother and uncle. May he rest in peace.
My condolences to the Keaney family and Jesuit community on Fr Joe’s passing. I’m saddened to hear of his death. I was an Alter Boy in the Jes in the early 80’s. Sincerest sympathy to Mary, Hilary, Chris, Gerry and all your extended families. We are so saddened to hear of Joe's passing. He was such a lovely man and wonderful neighbour to us when he was home. We were so lucky in that he celebrated Mass in our house, for all our neighbours on a few occasions and they were such special occasions and so enjoyable. Joe had a wonderful spirit or presence about him and that Spirit will live forever. He will be fondly remembered by all of us.

Sad to hear of Fr Joe's death. Sympathy to his family and friends and Jesuit Community. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
Is cuimhin liom an tAthair Joe agus é ina shagart óg ag saothrú go dícheallach in Zambia. Chuir sé de dhua mór air féin dhá theanga dhúchasacha de chuid na tíre a fhoghlaim agus chaith saol torthúil fiúntach ann ar mhaithe le pobal mór daoine. Go raibh a luach saothair ar neamh aige faoi seo. Comhbhrón lena mhuintir agus lena bhráithre Íosánacha go léir ar cheart dóibh a bheith an-bhródúil as éachtaí Joe.
My sincere condolences to the Keaney family on the passing of Father Joe.
Sincere sympathy to you all Remember Fr Joe and you all in my Mass and prayers.
