I called into San Silvestro while on holidays in Rome with my husband and two sons. Fr John was a gentleman and always friendly when he visited the Pallottine in Thurles. He loved to chat and would always ask after my family. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to Fr. John’s brother Michael, his sister Rita, the wider Fitzpatrick and Gleeson families and the Pallottine Community.

Fr. John married us in 2006 in San Silvestro, and from the second we met him he put us at ease straight away. Fr. John gave the upmost attention to every aspect of our wedding preparations, and went to great lengths with the Italian authorities to ensure that all our paperwork was in order.

He was a kind and dedicated priest, as well as being very sociable and up to date with all the news and GAA talk. We had great chats about all the people and relatives ‘back home’ in Tipperary.

May Fr. John rest in peace.

I was a regular attender at Mass in San Silvestro when I lived in Rome 2018-22 and remember fondly the lovely tradition of having tea and a chat afterwards offered by Fr John and Fr Rory. John was always very sociable, up to the minute with the news and a great GAA fan ! He was a gentle soul. May he rest in peace.
