We have only just discovered that Fr. Louis has passed away.
We pass our condolences to all his family, friends and colleagues.
Louis was a first cousin of Fred Cariss, father of Michael, Paul, Aileen and Francis. Louis visited Melbourne many years ago and was welcomed by all the Cariss family. Further, Louis provided hospitality for many of us in both Rome and Dublin.

Lovely memory of lunch in St Isidores with Fr Louis and Fr John on the 1st anniversary of our wedding. Fr Louis taught two of my uncles in Gormanstown. May you rest in peace Fr Louis. Condolences to all the Brennans and his Fransiscan family.
Sincere sympathy to Fr. Louis' family and to the Franciscan family, on the passing of a genuine follower of St. Francis. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Louis was my art teacher and had a profound influence on my development as an artist, encouraging me to study art, even giving me a small supply of art books to move me forward.
I went on to be an artist, even have my art on a few Irish stamps and I know he was damn proud of me.
I did get to thank him at our PPU reunions and the very last time we spent time together was at one of these gatherings in The Grand Hotel in Malahide only a few years ago.
I even got to hold him up by the arm as we walked to the dining room and we joked about who supported who, then and now.
We always included Louis, a lovely, kind, gentle man, in our past pupils gatherings and we loved having him with us.
Now we end this era with his passing and personally I look forward to our next get-together. No rush :)

I have the fondest of memories of this very gentle and caring man, from him being my teacher and Clann Leader in Gormanston through the Rome excursion! , and of course for officiating at my marriage in St. Isidore's in 1990, where he also took us under his wing for the week we spent there.
He is one of the few people whose memory I will always treasure.
May he Rest in Eternal Peace.

Fr. Louis was an exemplary follower of St.Francis, a first class teacher and an inspiror for young students.
He possessed a broad human empathy spectrum, loved art and literature, and wanted to communicate and share his experience.
Personally, as a pupil in Gormanston '62, I learned very quickly to appreciate his skills and knowledge in Clann Mhuire, also as a director of Shakespeare's The Mercant of Venice, where I was allowed to play the role of Shylock (a Jew with a foreign accent), and as an inspiring guide on our Easter Rome adventure.
Later I was happy to meet with him in the Irish College in Leuven, in Rome and in Dublin, always interested and remembering the good times!
Louis Brennan OFM, a giant in our life's memory.
Requiescat in pace.

My sincere condolences to the Brennan and Franciscan families. I have nothing but great memories of my six years in Gormanston. As a student I would remember Louis as a strict but fair Dean of Discipline and Rector. The few times I met him in the intervening half century I found him to be the most enjoyable company. Rest in the arms of God Louis.
Sincere condolences to the Brennan family

Sincere sympathy to Fr Louis’s family. Lovely man strict but fair and game for a joke / laugh. May the Lord have mercy on his soul.
I first met Fr. Louis in St. Isidores in Rome in 1956 - I was there for my uncle's ordination, & the then Franciscan clerical student looked after me - took the 12 year-old up to the side of the alter during the ordination proceedings. Later I had the privilege of having him as a teacher in Gormanston college. Fair, understanding - always a gentleman - may he Rest In Peace.
Gerri Evelyn and Fr.Louis'extended family, my sincere condolences as we all mourn the loss of such a wonderful man, holy priest and loyal friend. Louis taught me to Skype when he was in Rome and we were both 'night owls' on the airwaves ! He always visited when he was home in Dublin. A razor sharp mind and quick wit,I will miss his calls, his kindness and his calming presence. May the Good Shepherd now lead him safely home. RIP
Sincere condolences to Fr. Louis’ family on his sad passing. I have fond memories of him during my time in Gormanston college and subsequent meetings in later years. May he rest in peace.
Decent, kind and good and a fine art teacher: with thanks.
We’ll always remember our granduncle, “Padre Luigi” One of the most patient, wise, and funny people we know. I’ll never forget our time in Rome with him as the best tour guide and how every local lit up when they saw him. He had a way of making everyone feel special. We’ll miss his stories, his laughter, and his kind heart so much. May he rest in peace.
As English teacher, football and athletics coach, host in St. Isidore's and friend right to the end in Dalkey, no man influenced me more than Louis. Farewell to a strong and gentle soul....
I never met Fr Louis but I have reason to never forget his kindness to me when he was Provincial over forty years ago.He showed true Franciscan spirit of welcome and help to the stranger.May he now enjoy the reward of a life spent in the service of others and be with his Lord this day in paradise

Fr Louis was one of the loveliest people I’ve ever met. We shared many good times in St Isidore’s including the odd beer whilst watching a gaelic match. He was such a kind, caring man with a lovely positive outlook on life and a great spirit of gratitude. But the thing that stands out for me with Louis was his sense of humour. His ability to make people laugh and his sharp wit were quite unique. He really was one in a million and will be missed by many. May his gentle soul rest in peace and may his goodness shine through in all of us who have had the pleasure of meeting him.
Sympathies to Fr Louis' relatives and the Franciscan community. His English classes left me with a lasting appreciation of literature and poetry. For this much thanks.
To Fr Louis sisters and family my sincere condolences on the sad passing of Louis. I spent 5 wonderful years under his care in Gormanston College and enjoy the other occasions we met up after I left the College. May he rest in peace

He was a good man and an inspirational figure.
In the past year, I had the pleasure of meeting Fr Louis in Dalkey in the company of Fr Declan. Lots of (mostly) great memories of Gormanston were shared. Louis was tough (he didn't remember this) but decent and very fair (he happily conceded!).
The 50 something years since had come and gone in a blink of eye for us all.
Condolences to both his personal and Franciscan families.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Fr Louis’ sisters, clan and colleagues. We have so many happy memories of meals, craic and conversation shared with him in Rome and of our last chat in Our Lady’s Manor when he was as usual sharp as a tack and up to date on world events. We will miss his wry humour and above all his sheer goodness. A great pastor. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam uasal

Sincere sympathy to Gerri & Evelyn and all the Brennan family, and also his Franciscan family. I knew him as rector, not as teacher. He just commanded respect. He came across as someone who really cared for the students.
It saddens me to think that he is probably the last of the Franciscan family in Gormanston from that era.
May he rest in peace.
