He was the same friiendly,sincere,gentle quiet spoken person who was admired by all.We always knew he would devote his life to the priesthood and bring his many gifts to his fruitful pastoral mission.I measc na naomh go raibh se.

So so sorry to hear of the death of Fr Matt - a much loved and welcome visitor to three generations of our home in Derk. Deepest and heartfelt condolences to his devoted sisters and brothers Rita, Bridget, Christy and Pat, to nieces and nephews especially Belinda, Padraic, Myra, Eugene, Val, and James and all the extended O'Connell, Kearins and Neary families. He has left a wonderful legacy through his missionary zeal and deep devotion to his Lord, who he now happily joins -reunited with his Parents and all the deceased members of his family. RIP.

Indeed Fr Matthew O'Connell has gone to rest after a wonderful life of dutiful service as a dedicated priest. He was a gentle and loving priest, merciful and generous to all.
