Sincere sympathy to the O’Keeffe family on the death of their beloved brother Fr. Michael. Way back I knew him when he worked in Ennistymon. He was a close friend of my late brother Michael. After work in his spare time he would often cycle to Fanore to meet up with a few others to discuss the events of the time which was so dear to them.

After captivity when he entered religious life and moved to Ocala we kept in contact and I looked forward to his long hand-written letters, very informative and interesting. Fr. Michael was extremely kind and caring to the poor and vulnerable.

His native language Gaelic was very dear to him.

It is with deepest regret to learn of the death of Fr Michael RIP. We were classmates in St Patrick's College in Carlow. The Class of '68.
I was always amazed at the dedication of Michael to any cause. I particularly admired his stance for and longing for the unification of Ireland. My own brother in law was a colleague of his and we often discussed the times they spent together in captivity for the cause they utterly believed in. We met last at our Golden jubilee in Carlow College. My regret is I cannot be present at his funeral mass. I am 10,000 miles away in Maui, Hawaii which I have been visiting every January for the past 25 years. It's not easy this time trying to comfort and support my many friends who lost everything in the devastating fires in Lahaina last August.
My condolences to all the O'Keefe family, relatives and friends and Fr Pat Sheedy who took such great care of Michael in his retirement.
May you rest in Peace dear friend knowing that in the not too distant future Ireland will be ONE and a Nation once again.
I write these few words with a heavy heart at 1am here in Maui waiting to tune into the requiem mass at 11am in Mullagh. I will be with you all in Spirit.
