Sincere condolences to Fr Mick's family and friends. I have very fond memories of Fr Mick from my time as a Carmelite student at Gort Muire and later as Deacon when he was Parish Priest and Director of the Community Centre at Whitefriar Street. He was occasionally misunderstood by some of the brethren but that didn’t stop him being faithful to his mission to act justly to lovely tenderly and walk humbly with his God (Micah 9:8). As a young carmelite Fr Mick taught me a lot and offered me the opportunity to attend pastoral counselling training during a summer vacation which led me on to qualify as a psychotherapist and develop a long lasting positive career. Thank you Fr Mick. He was also courageous enough to teach me how to drive the green mini bus at Gort Muire and didn’t bat an eye when on one occasion I drove through a red light at some speed. He later asked casually (when we were safely parked) if by any chance I needed to visit the opticians. I still have a licence and have never ran a red light since ! I will be forever grateful for his kindness, generosity, wisdom and encouragement. It is lovely to read such warm tributes to him on this site confirming his generosity of spirit, sense of fun and his ability to connect and inspire others. May he rest in peace with all of his fellow saints in heaven.

So sorry to hear the sad news about Fr. Morrissey. Condolences to his family, friends and Carmelite community. We were so blessed to have him in Ballyhale during our teenage years, when he organised badminton matches and céilí classes, and would hang out having the chats with us. I was delighted when he agreed to return to the village to marry Dave and I, and we kept in touch over the years. I’m picturing him now, somewhere in Connemara, enjoying the peace and quiet. Rest in peace Fr. M. We will never forget you.

Fr Morrissey, Michael or Martin Óg (as he was known to our family) was a cherished friend. He was a wonderful colleague to Aidan (now deceased) a loyal and reliable friend to Aidan & Helen, a teacher to Robert and Dermot, a role model to Collette and Lucy and was always a most welcome visitor to our house. His energy and unfailing good humour brought a sense of fun and as children, we loved to see him arrive in his orange VW Beetle, and to watch him leap effortlessy over the gate. His infectious laugh echoed throughout the house. He was a regular visitor and was widely known by grannies, aunties and uncles. When he moved to Knocktopher, Kinsale and back to various locations in Dublin, the link was never lost. He always remained a trusted and firm friend. He was most gracious when asked for help and over the years, baptised Lucy, married Collette (to Dave) and baptised Gráinne. His presence was a constant, even when we no longer saw him in later years. Despite ailing health and the great difficulties he had writing and (towards the end) speaking, he kept in touch to check on Aidan (who was in declining health), and to offer support to Helen and the rest of the family. We are all so sorry to hear of his passing, but are thankful to have had him as such a strong and unfailing friend for almost 60 years. We offer our sincere condolences to his siblings, family members, friends and members of the Carmelite community on his passing. May Martin Óg rest in peace.

As a former confrere of Fr Michael (Serapion in the old days) in Gort Muire in the 1960s, I remember him on the football field as the fastest man on two feet. He was never a pound overweight and a good player.
Above all, Fr Michael was a gentleman and a man of God.
Sympathy to his family and to his many friends.
Rest in Peace, old friend.
