Chris was a truly great teacher of theology. He combined academic rigour with a true pastoral concern. Apart from what he taught me I saw him as a model of priesthood combining head and heart in the service of God's people. Ar dheis De go rabh a anam
I will never forget the wonderful old Donegal definition of Jesus that I first heard from Fr Chris R.I.P. "Ar gculcathair ar thaobh a Mhathair". ( Our cousin on his Mother's side) I am grateful for his help both during and after my days as his student in Milltown in the late 1960s and in subsequent years. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
Brian Mac Eochagain s.j.
I still remember important insights from Fr Chris' lectures while at the Milltown Institute.
Thank you Chris. Deepest sympathy to his family and the Carmelite community.
So sad to hear of the death of Dear Fr Chris who I met in the late 1970s and became one of my closest and cherished friends until this last few years when we lost contact. May his gentle soul now rest in peace with Jesus and Mary.
I was fortunate to have had Chris as one of my theology teachers in the early 1980s, and to have been an academic colleague of his for many years between 1987-2008. A great scholar, a good man, an exemplary priest. And he was fun to be around.
My sincere condolences to his family and to the O Carms.
I am saddened by the death of Fr. Chris O'Donnell OCarm. My condolences to his sister Maire and to his Carmelite community. I was a colleague of Chris for many years at the Milltown Institute. He was unfailingly gracious, good-humoured, and supportive. His loyalty to the Institute was total. Like so many others I admired his academic prowess. This will continue to influence those who read his books and essays. May Chris now enjoy God 's presence face to face.
Sincere sympathy to Maire and the Carmelite Fathers on the death of Fr. Chris. We always got a good welcome on our visits to Fr. Chris in Gort Muire. Thank you for that.
My deepest sympathies to the family and friends, and to the Carmelite community of the late Fr Chris on behalf of the Irish Jesuit Province. Sadly, I will not be able to attend the funeral, as a result of current circumstances, but I will be offering Mass for his happy repose. As a novice, a long, long time ago, I had the privilege of attending a course over ten weeks in Milltown, delivered by Fr Chris: it was terrific, mainly on ecclesiology and on Mary. And I had the privilege of being present when Bishop Brendan Leahy spoke so well and fulsomely of and to him on the occasion of the launch of that special volume to honour his life and work, about two years ago, I think. May he rest in peace. L

Sincere and deepest sympathy on the sad passing of Fr. Christopher. Go ndeana Dia trocaire ar a anam.
A true man of God,. May he experience the blessing of the Trinity forever.
Fr Chris was a great example of down to earth holiness and deep insights into Spirituality. He was my supervisor for the thesis part of my STL. I was seriously unwelll for periods of my dissertation, and Chris went above and beyond the call of duty to enable me to get it over the line. He confided in me that he had often done such hand-holding for thesis students. This was a mark of the man and indicative of his deeply held Christianity. Ni bheidh a leithead againn aris.
Sending our sincere sympathies to the family of Fr Chris and to his Carmelite Brothers. May he rest in peace and be warmly welcomed home by Our Lord, Mary the Mother of Carmel and all the hosts of saints. He will be missed for his wisdom, insight and wit.
