Sorry to be so late with my message of condolences to Paddy's family and his Fellow Marists. I was a student at the Milltown Institute from 1991 - 1995 and I was on the Staff then from 1995 - 2001. As a mature student Paddy was such a help in getting me back into the world of learning. He was very patient and kind and so generous with his time. He joined us students on social evenings to some water houses in Ranelagh. If you wanted to find Paddy to ask him a question you would find him in the library on the same seat and every student and lecturer left that seat vacant for Paddy. As a colleague Paddy was once again so helpful showing me around the staff room and welcoming me as a colleague. Truly a gentleman and an example of Christianity in action. May he rest in the Peace of Jesus's arms after a life of Service.

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Fr. Byrne and to the Marist Fathers, Miltown & Dundalk. May he rest in peace.
I am very sorry to hear of Fr Paddy's death. I offer my deepest sympathy to his family and all the Marist Fathers.
I have great memories of meeting Fr Paddy at various Marist gatherings in Milltown over the years.
He made everyone feel at home and part of the Marist family. His knowledge of scripture was immense. He knew the true meaning of every word written in scripture and the bible. Is was all clear in his head. He needed no library - he was the library.
He was very much loved by all who knew him and especially by his students in the Jesuit college in Milltown Park. On graduation night he would accompany all his students to any party he was invited to & he loved a glass of wine and loved joining the students on their night out. He always enjoyed fun & laughter
Those we love and lose are always connected by heartstrings into infinity. A brilliant mind sadly missed deserving much love and endless respect. How does one sum up the impact of someone with such a brilliant mind?
Fr Paddy may you rest in peace and may all the Angels & Saints greet you and take you the best armchair in the room.
May your gentle soul rest in peace. RIP
Margaret Murray
I had the great fortune of knowing Fr. Paddy’s great mind from his homilies in Roebuck Carmel and of knowing his great humour when we shared the journey there or back with his insistence that he position himself to my right so that his right arm would be free to enact the age old tradition of drawing his sword in my defence should the need arise. Leaba i measc na naomh duit a athair.
My sympathy to Fr. Paddy’s family and the Marist conferes on his passing. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

All our love and sympathy - from the O'Neill family Bird Avenue
I am very sorry to learn of the death of Fr Paddy and extend my sympathies to his family, relatives and the Marists. My first contact with the Milltown Institute was in 1972 when I was asked to take over Paddy's course as he went abroad on his mission work. I was happy to meet him on his return some years later and enjoyed the company of that gentle soul, so kind and informative on so many matters. Ar dheis lamh De go raibh a anam uasal. Deepest sympathy to Leenane & Maureen and all the family on the death of Fr. Pat, what a lovely man ! Loved by all ages..remember him so well from the wedding of his great niece Louise to our son Brian, followed by the baptism of their 3 children, always a kind word and a laugh. So sorry the funeral was so confined, but was lovely on the church Webcam.
May he rest in peace .

We were happy to accompany the Burial Mass this morning. I also heard from Brazil that Pe. Paulo died in France Rip . Keep safe all of you in Ireland.
It was nice to see Coolock Church again....last was Fr. Corcoran's funeral rest him and all before him and since! Blessings!
My sympathy to Fr Byrne's family and Marist conferes on hia death - may he rest in peace.
As a student, Brother Pat (as we called him) was spiritual director for our youth group in the Legion Of Mary in St Joseph’s in Rathmines. I suspect he learned as much from us in those early days as we did from him.
He was a wonderful guide and support to me in those angst-ridden teenage years. He took a group of us away for a few days to a wooden cabin in beautiful Glencree with another Marist student, Brother Ray. We made our way to Eniskerry on the 44 bus where Pat collected us in his sister’s Mini car - he had to make two round trips!
Another time he took us to Clogherhead for a few great days away.
He imparted the teachings of Jesus to us without ever preaching and I am indebted to him for his contribution to the person I am today.
I remember a kind, generous, and forgiving man.
My deep regret is that we lost contact over the years and although I thought of him many times I did not seek him out. My loss.
May he rest in peace.

Deepest sympathies to the family and Marist family of Fr. Paddy. As a former student of Milltown, I have the fondest of memories chatting to Fr. Paddy in the corridors and canteen. He was a hugely encouraging character and always so knowledgeable. As a lecturer, his classes were always interesting, especially when he spoke of his trips to the Middle East and he had a true gift of drawing his audience in. A true gentleman, may he rest in peace.
Sincerest sympathies to Fr. Paddy's family and confreres. In my brief time at Milltown I was exposed to his intellect and humour. He was a delight to learn from and to listen to. His wry observations about biblical matters and life in general made it a pleasure to be in his presence. A true, well-informed and intelligent gentleman.
Sincere sympathy to Fr. Paddy's family and the Marist Fathers. Fr. Paddy was one of life's gentlemen. May he rest in peace.
It was with deep sadness that I heard of Fr Byrnes passing. He was a priest ahead of his time in his views and in his solutions to the problems of the world. Having been so well travelled he always had an outward look on life. At Christmas I told him I was heading off to trek gorillas in Uganda and I think if he could have joined me he would have!!! A wonderful friend to our family for decades and part of some of our most important family occasions he will be missed by all the Byrnes.
It is with the fondest of memories and deep sadness that I write this note. When I think of the Milltown Institute I think of Paddy. Sitting at the same desk in the same place every day I could always depend on his being there but always there in a special way - with an open heart and mind to whoever was in special need of that ‘short ‘cut towards knowledge. I was one of these special needs and when I asked him to help me with a question - no matter of what nature his reply was - and in what language would you like that answered? So much so that when I got to know Paddy better I would remind him that he spoke every language under the sun except his own. And his quip - and what language would that be and my too hastily fashioned - Gaeilge. He knew only too well that home is difficult for everyone to find but he knew we could try and locate it in our talks with each other. He treated ancient texts as respectfully as he treated each frightened student, old and young and did not distinguish between the gradations in scholarship. He kept a keen eye on political affairs - both Church and State and used say ‘this too will pass’. He loved a pint of Guinness. He never preached and always wanted to pursue the matter further. He bore his deep learning so lightly and kept his deep faith in his heart but if you listened you could know something of many possibilities. May you Rest In Peace, dear Paddy. After all you were the one who used always say to me - The Lord knows what you meant.
Deepest sympathy to Fr. Paddy's family and to the Marist Fathers in Cerdon. We looked forward to seeing and chatting with Fr. Paddy when we sang at Easter and Christmas. May he Rest In Peace.
My deepest sympathy to Fr. Paddy's sisters, his Marist Community and friends. I had the privilege of being one of Fr. Paddy's students in Milltown. He was such a kind, warm-hearted, selfless, encouraging person. Always ready and wanting to help us and genuinely concerned about all his students. It brings a smile to my face now as I picture Fr. Paddy being welcomed with open arms and great celebrations by everyone in heaven. At dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
My deepest condolences to all of Fr. Pat's family.
Paddy was a man of God and a man of great kindness. It was a joy to be in his company. He was always helpful to students, whether in his class or not, and was always willing to send us in the direction of a helpful book or article. He had 'great corners to him'. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dhilis.
My deepest sympathy to the relatives and extended family of Fr Paddy.
Fondly remembered in my prayers at this time. It was a privilege to have known him during my time as a student in Milltown. A caring, considerate and gentle man. May he rest in eternal peace.

My deepest condolences to the family of Paddy Byrne. I was so fortunate to be one of his students. I will always remember him fondly and with love. He never wavered in his compassion, and kindness to us at Milltown. If we needed help at all he was there. He accepted our invites to social gatherings and honestly it wouldn't have been the same without him. He loved to teach and get to know his students. I know he will be welcomed into the gates of heaven with wide open arms and he will be fitted with the most beautiful wings as he was already an angel living as a human among us. Rest in peace Paddy, you will be missed but never forgotten xox
I am so sorry to hear of the death of Fr Pat. I worked with him in a school many years ago at the beginning of my teaching career. My condolences to Fr. Paddy's sisters, community and friends. Paddy taught me much about the scriptures and camels during my time in Milltown as a student but much more about being a kind person. God rest him
So sorry to hear of the death of Fr. Paddy. As a former student of Milltown, I was lucky to have Fr Paddy lecture me on a number of occasions and his knowledge of the scriptures was incredible. But it was his character that was most endearing - he was so warm, caring and courteous towards all students, so helpful in the library when we were desperately searching for a book and he even joined us on our student social night outs! He was always full of great wisdom and advice and he will always be an inspiration to me. May he rest in peace. With my prayers for the Marist community and his family.
Deepest sympathy to Leenane and Maureen on the sad death of Fr Paddy. He was truly a wonderful friend of the O Sullivan and Byrne families for over 60 years. It was always a joy to spend time with him as the topics of conversation were fascinating and we listened in wonder to his many lifelong experiences. He will be greatly missed.
May he forever dwell in Paradise.

I am sorry to hear of Fr. Paddy’s passing. My sincere condolences to the Marist Fathers, and everyone who will miss him. When I lived in the Marist residence in Milltown, I was asking the last Fr. Brendan if we had a Concordance in the library. Fr. Paddy walked by & Fr. Brendan said, “There is your Concordance”. May the risen Lord welcome Fr. Paddy through the open door & lead him into the glory of Heaven. Rip

Very sad to hear of Fr. Paddys passing. Very fond memories of him from my time as a student in Milltown in the 90's. He had such a love for his subject and passed this on effortlessly to his students. I felt he lived with the prophets and great biblical characters as living comrades, but was also truly present as a friend to us young students. May he rest in peace.
