Fr Peter Finegan

I am so sad to hear that Fr Peter Finegan has died. I got to know him in 1988 when he was S P in Kiltegan, and my uncle who was also a 'Kiltegan father' was ill. He was a warm, intelligent and caring person who had deep spirituality. He was also in touch with the world and could chat about anything, with anyone. My sympathies to his extended family and the Kiltegan fathers. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Dear Breda, Linda, cousins, friends and Kiltegan family, sincere sympathies on the sad passing of Fr Peter. What a special man he was, having devoted all his adult life to missionary work in Africa, and when he was home he had that presence about him too, even though he was so humble, down to earth, and friendly. I really only got to know him well when he retired to the Trim Road and he enjoyed his time there despite losing his sister Mary. He loved nothing more than a short cycle out the country and in by the Commons Road or a walk down the town. He was a font of information about old Navan but he also embraced positively the changes in the town since his childhood. Of course Fr Peter’s own deep faith, his extensive knowledge of faith issues, his love of prayer and meditation, and his missionary work made him such a special person. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.

My sincere sympathy to all of Fr. Peter's Family and Friends. My first job was at the Finegan Family business in Ludlow St. That is more than sixty years ago. To meet Fr. Peter in recent times was occasion to share happy nostalgia. A gentle and humble man has left us. May he rest in Heavenly Peace

We were at school together in St. Pats in Navan, and when he retired we met again in Headfort Golf Club where we had a chance to renew our friendship and swap stories of times past and catch up on all the news and enjoy playing golf on the verdant fairways of Headfort.
