To Fr. Raphael’s family, friends & brother priests, my sincerest condolences to you all.
I remember him when he was in the Redemptorist’s, here in Limerick.
I often got confession with him.
He was a lovely man.
May God reward him for his faithfulness. In my prayers.

I was so sorry to hear the news of Uncle Raphael's passing. He was always so friendly to me, and to Laura and I as a couple. I'll always cherish his sincere interest in my family heritage and culture, and the way he embraced other cultures and religious traditions with open arms. But really - he was just a warm, kind, friendly man, who like so many members of your family contributed to making me feel so welcome. I'd always enjoy his warm smile or a nice chat at a family gathering, celebration party or wedding. My sincere condolences to Anne and the rest of the Gallagher clan.
Sincere condolences to the extended Gallagher family on Fr Raphael’s death. RIP.
My sincere condolences to the Gallagher family on the passing of dear Fr. Raphael. My sympathy also for his confreres in the Redemptorists.
Myself and my late husband Colm got to know Raphael during our time in Marne La Vallée near Paris. We quickly became friends, a friendship that endured for a long time. We were fortunate to meet up from time to time in France, Rome and Galway. He was such an interesting, witty and caring person and it’s clear he was loved and respected far and wide. I am saddened to hear of his death. May he rest in peace.

Our most heartfelt condolences to the Gallagher family on the passing of dear Raph, a kind and generous man who we had the privilege and honour to have as a friend. During his time in Rome and later when he returned to Ireland he continued to be of precious support to your family during difficult and happy times. We will miss you.
Rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to Raphael's family, colleagues and community at this time. It was such a grace to have him guide me during studies in Rome. I thoroughly enjoyed his learning, wit and friendship over the years, and his continued support. May his good deeds go with him.
Our sincere sympathies to the Redemptorist and Gallagher families upon hearing the sad news of the death of Fr Raphael . Raph was always such a wonderful friend and counsellor to us along life’s journey sharing his wisdom and insight. With fond memories of coffees in Rome and Paris as well as in Marianella. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Gerry and Deirdre Linehan O’Brien Churchtown Dublin 14
I was saddened and shocked by the sudden death of Raphael. We the class of '78 were blessed to have Raphael as our Moral Theology Lecturer. The meetings that followed our Studies, were mainly sharing a meal together, sometimes with friends, and once with Family.
Raphael was a person-centred human being. His ability to listen, to understand, to reach out, to ignite with the promise 'of lighting a candle' was pure gold. Thanks to the Gallagher Family who raised and supported Raphael and to his Redemptorist confreres who moulded him.
And now may the Peace, the Joy, the Love which Raphael shared burn in the hearts of Family and Friends.

Sincere sympathy to the family of Fr Raphael & his Redemptorist community on your great loss. I have known Fr Raphael for over 50 years. He celebrated our wedding ceremony in 1982. It was always a great pleasure to meet up with him, the last one in June 2024. A man of great wisdom & intellect who carried it very lightly. ‘Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.’ May he Rest In Peace.
Sincere condolences to the Gallagher family and entire Redemptorist community. Joan and I were married in St Alphonsus church, Rome, by Fr Raphael in 1972 and kept in touch since. We returned to the same venue 30 years later for our Anniversary Mass, again celebrated by Fr Raphael. May he Rest in Peace.
My deepest condolences to Fr. Raphael’s family and the Redemptorist community. I have known Fr. Raphael for over forty years but sadly lost contact since before his move to Dundalk. I was saddened to hear of his passing, he was a great and kind man with a good sense of humour, he will be missed. Rest in peace Fr. Raphael.
Our most sincere condolences to all the family on the passing of Fr. Raphael. We got to know him quite well during his time here in Rome and later, after his return to Ireland, met up occasionally in Wynn's Hotel in Dublin when he was more mobile. We will miss him a lot. May he rest in peace.
I'm so sorry to hear that your dear brother has died Paula. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to the Gallagher family.
Sincere condolences to the Gallagher family.
I knew Fr Raph well when I was posted to the Embassy of Ireland to the Holy See in the early 1990s. We enjoyed many a fascinating social evening together. He was a kind and generous man who wore his deep learning lightly. Sincere condolences to his relatives and to his wider Redemptorist family. Solas na bhFlaitheas ar a anam uasal dílis.
My heartfelt condolences to the family. I met Father Raphael in 1993 in Paris where he would celebrate Mass for a group of internationals. I cherish those memories. We kept in touch for many years after and though we had not been in touch for quite a while, I thought of him often. I will pray for his soul and for his bereaved family members. May he rest in perfect peace and receive his heavenly reward.
Sincere condolences to the immediate and extended family of my dear friend Raphael. A man of light, hope and love that I had the good fortune to meet in Paris circa 1993 and whose friendship was a constant and wonderfully positive gift to me.
I had the privilege to have FR. Raphael Gallagher as Professor at Accademia Alfonsiana.
His passion for justice and kindness will be always an inspiration for me and so many theologians.
My thoughts are today with his family and friends.
With love and prayers.

Anne I am saddened to hear of Raphael's death. He was a very special person in the Gallagher clan and to all who knew him. Raphael's nobility was an inspiration to you all. May you treasure wonderful memories and may his loving spirit Rest in Peace
To Paula and all the Gallagher family. I want to express my sympathy to upon the death of Raphael. I was shocked and really saddened when I received the news. Over the years Raph has been a great friend to me; kind, gentle, funny and wise. Both in Rome and back in Ireland it was always a joy to meet and converse with him. He was an example to me of what a good priest could be and this because he was such a good human being. As I said my prayers the other evening and thought of Raph the Liturgy of the Hours gave me these words from St. Anselm which could have been Raph’s own:
“Teach me to seek you, and reveal yourself to me as I seek, because I can neither seek you if you do not teach me how, nor find you unless you reveal yourself. Let me seek you in desiring you; let me desire you in seeking you; let me find you in loving you; let me love you in finding you.” May his noble and gentle soul rest in peace. With the assurance of my prayers,
Fr. Enda Murphy, Rome

Uncle Raphael brought so much kindness and wisdom into our lives. Elyse and I will always cherish the special memory of him officiating our wedding. He will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.
I am saddened to learn of the death of Fr. Raphael. I remember him, from my time at Maynooth, with fondness and deep gratitude. As a teacher of theology, he was exceptional in his passion for truth and humility before it. Thank you, Fr. Raphael, and may you rest in peace.
I knew Fr Raphe for over 50 years, and always loved his company. His kindness, wisdom and humility were always to the fore. Rest in peace Fr Raphe.,
My sincere sympathy to the Redemtorist community and to Fr Rapheael's family

Thinking of you Aideen and the extended Gallagher family at this sad and difficult time. You often spoke so fondly of Fr. Raphael - I know you had a very deep connection. May he rest in peace.
Uncle Raphael, you were a man to look up to. Kind hearted, good natured, thoughtful, intelligent, playful and considerate. I am so proud to carry your name. May you rest in peace. Condolences and love to Mom, Michael, Paula, Joan, Aideen, Dorothy and John.
Deepest sympathy to Fr. Raphael's family and Redemptorist confreres at this sad time. We were privileged as a community that he celebrated Sunday Mass with us on a regular basis. His compassionate presence, inspiring homilies, wisdom and humour enriched our lives.

We are saddened to hear of the death of Raphael, our friend for many years. It is an understatement to say Raphael was ahead of his time. On our last visit with him in Dundalk we reminded him of his Late Late contribution in 1985 and he was happy to know that we had watched it on You Tube a few days earlier. Raphael was special and contributed a lot to our lives.
To his family sincere condolences.

My sincere condolences to Paula and all the Gallagher family on the passing of Raphael. I have known him since 1971 when we studied together in the Alphonsian Academy, Rome, and our paths have crossed on a number of occasions since. He was always the same, kind, humble, interested, and carried lightly his academic learning. I was happy to virtually attend his funeral Mass, having been frustrated from travelling to Dundalk by the cancellation of trains travelling North. May dear Raphael rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to his Redemptorist confreres and to the Gallagher family on the death of Raphael.
It was always enlightening to meet and converse with him, and on occasion to have the honour of publishing work by him. I am further saddened that circumstances conspire against being able to be with you in St Joseph's to pray Requiem for him, and to thank God for his compassion, his learning, and his kindness.

Sincere condolences to Fr. Raphael's family and Redemptorist brothers on his death. I didn't know him personally but I used to tune in to Limerick Monastery during Covid-19 and he was regularly the Celebrant of the Mass. He also said the Rosary at times in the evenings. There was no rush on him. He came across to me as a kind, considerate, laid-back and happy man. I loved his sermons - he knew what he was about - not too long but great power in his words. May the Good Lord reward him for his ministry and service on this earth and may his gentle soul rest in peace🙏🙏
My sincere sympathy to all Fr. Raphael's family of Redemtorists and his own Gallagher family.
It has been my great honour to get to know Fr. Raphael while he was in Limerick and to continue our regular contact when he moved to Dundalk.
I think his Funeral Mass described him perfectly as he was one of the humblest, kindest people I have ever known and had a way of including you and empathising which made you feel special.
His promises of lighted candles was a constant strength to me.
May he rest in peace now in the arms of Jesus with Our Lady of Perpetual, help, St. Alphonsus, St. Gerard, St. Joseph and all the angels and saints.

I was saddened to learn of Raphael's death. A distinguished theologian who bravely questioned some of the more oppressive moral orthodoxies of Cathlocism, Raphael was also a pastor and counsellor of compassion and wisdom. Leaba i measc na naomh go raibh aige.

May the happy memories of his wonderful life comfort you in your grief now and in the weeks ahead. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal dílis.
It is with such profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that I read of Fr Raphael’s death. Raphael was years ahead of his time in his discernment with and support of the LGBT+ community before ever we had the language, acronyms and social acceptance of today. The “Reach” group which met for years in the Redemptorist house, Marianella, Rathgar, was a beacon of hope in very dark times for the gay community in Ireland. I grew to understand, through Raphael’s wisdom, what it is to live a moral life. For that, I am forever grateful.
Deepest sympathy to the Gallagher family on Father Raphael's passing, may he rest in peace. My sympathy also to the Redemptorists.
I was his secretary when he was Provincial. He and I didn't always sing from the same hymn sheet. Having worked together for six years we got to know each other well. I remember telling him I was going to do the Enneagran. He said 'you needn't bother, you are a 3'. He was correct!
He was an unbelievable worker and gave so much of himself to others. I pray he will reap the fruits of his labours.

A scholar, a theologian, a writer but above all a man of profound compassion to whom so much is owed by so many. Raphael could see beyond the surface and into the heart of what really mattered.
It was a joy, a privilege and an honour to know him. He is an inspiration. Rest in heavenly peace, Raphael.
