What a Friend,what a Legend,a Good & Holy Priest,an Inspiration,a Hero & I believe a Saint.
My Dad & Uncle went to school with FrRory (& his Dad & my Grandfather were in jail together in the Curragh Camp during the war of Independence !) so he was a family friend & a regular visitor to our house since my earliest memories.......& I've so many great memories of him since then.
For the first 3 years of our QUEEN OF PEACE Prayer Group (till he retired to Kiltegan) he was with us every Monday night to Pray with us,be our Spiritual Director & say Masses regularly.He also came on our first trip to MEDUGORJE back in 2018.
No matter what I ever asked of FrRory the answer was always the same....."NO PROBLEM."
Imagine....34 years in Nigeria & another 26 in Cameroon.God only knows how many hundreds of thousands of lives he helped to improve both Spiritually & Physically over those 60 years (& how many lives he saved during the Biafra War).
When I'd ask him about his long life he's say with great enthusiasm
"IT WAS A TOUGH LIFE BUT IT WAS A GREAT LIFE."
He was one of only a few people who had a huge influence on my life & I'll be forever grateful for all he did for me in so, so many ways.
May FrRory Rest in Peace & please God we'll meet again.

Rory has left behind a rich legacy of faith through his work on the missions and a genuine feeling of warmth and happy memories to all of us who had the pleasure of knowing him over the passing years . Fr. Rory was a wonderful family friend and always said mass in our house when he returned from the Missions on holiday. He shared many great hurling stories and recalled matches he played alongside Sean. Fr. Rory will never be forgotten in the Waters household. May his gentle kind soul rest in eternal peace. The eternal rest setting is a setting from our lord, in the name of the Father, son and holy setting. Fr Rory was an immense inspiration in his various settings under the holy setting. Our lord knows the gifts of what Fr Rory presented under our lords setting.

Deepest condolences to the O'brien family and the Kiltegan Fathers on the loss of Fr. Rory. He was my mentor from when i was 8years old, receiving FHC from him, till i became a priest. He was a holy and prayerful priest, a great pastor and missionary and an icon of faith among our people in the rural parish of Fuanantui, Cameroon. He had something special about praying for people for healing. His daily eucharistic adoration transformed the lives of people. He has been a father and our inspiration. May his spirit live on in us. Rest well 'Fala Loly' as the old folks fondly called you!

Sincere sympathy to all Fr Rory's family.He was an exceptional charismatic Man, and gave of himself to others. When Liam suffered a massive stroke some years ago, with no hope of recovery, Fr Rory called frequently to the Hospital to bless him, and pray over him. Liam made a miraculous recovery , praise the Lord, and thanks to Fr Rory and many others who prayed also. Fr Rory will never be forgotten by us. May your gentle soul rest in peace Fr Rory.

Words alone cannot express the vacuum left in my heart right now having the thought that I will never hear from you nor see you again. You taught us all we need in life and right now, I am consoled only by your preaching and lessons.

The memories of me typing your letters, going to check your post box and assisting you in different ways are still fresh in my mind. How I wish you witnessed who I have become, all thanks to your selfless efforts. Thank you for believing in my Dad (Peter) and loving us like your own.

It gives me joy knowing that you have reunited with Dad in heaven. When Mum heard about your departure, she cried but prayed for your soul to rest, because that is what you taught us (to pray for the dead).

When Dad left, I still felt I had a Dad because I knew you were still there for us, though at a far distance. Your prayers have always been felt. When the news of your demise reached me, I exclaimed, “We are finally fatherless.”

Your legacy remains forever, and we will forever be united in thoughts and spirit.
