I had the privilege of living in Divine Word Hostel in Maynooth from 1969 to 1972. During that time my life was enriched by many people but the most significant was Tom Leyden-I used to regularly make an effort to share a dining table with Tom-what a wonderful Christian. May Tom enjoy his eternal reward.

Sincere condolences to Fr Tom’s family in Ireland and his missionary family in Kenya who looked after him so well all through the years. He was a great friend of my parents Pat and Tony Ellickson (both RIP) and would visit us in Waterford whenever he was home. We loved when he came as he always full of fun and energy and so interested in us and what we were up to. His letters from Africa were incredible so spiritual and uplifting. May he Rest in Peace after a life so well spent helping others.
Deepest condolences to Fr. Tom Leyden's family.
For me Tom’s simple life style, well spent time in writing letters to friends and family and his dedication in reading Holy Bible inspired me. He always longed to hear mission stories from confreres who visit provincial house, where he resided until his death. He would listen to the poor, their life’s stories and share with the community members as reflection during our daily mass. This human stories and interactions with others made him more humane and created no interest in modern day communication gadgets. When he met children, he would say, there is life and energy acknowledging that he was getting weaker day by day. Having lived with him for about six year in the same community, I can say, I lived with a saintly confrere Fr. Tom. Good bye Tom.
It was with deep sadness we heard of Fr Tom's death..

I was his barber for many years when he was in Roscommon.

Tom was a friend to all. Kind, gentle and courteous. Tom was my novice master and indeed he lived what he shared, the Word of God. God’s word always on his lips. Yes ,Tom was most certainly a religious missionary of the Divine Word. To his nieces and nephew and extended family my deepest sympathy. You can be proud of your Uncle Tom he was a priest of Jesus Christ and lived what he was ordained to be. A humble servant of the servant of God. Tom you never showed the ‘white feather’ and Mayo always close to your heart. Like so many others I was blessed by your goodness. Rest In Peace my friend
