celebrating mass. Fr. Tom's death is a great loss especially to his family, his Franciscan
community and the people of Clonmel who attended mass in the Friary. May his gentle
soul rest in peace.
I shall always remember Fr Tom Russell for his kindness and gentleness. I was thinking of him recently on a visit to North West Clare where the Russell family roots run deep. Undoubtedly his musical talent comes from there. Among his publications, his book on John Bradbutne is both inspirational and a work of art. Ceol na n-aingeal go gcloise sé.
Fr Tom was a Blanchardstown native who spent 59 years of his life as a priest following in the footsteps of St Francis in mostly rural parishes in Zimbabwe and Franciscan Friaries in Ireland. In all these diverse appointments one common denominator shone through, that is Tom's goodness which touched the hearts of all who came into contact with him. He was seemingly tireless in the service of his parishioners, cousins and friends, there was no stone left unturned if it could help. He was a multi published author, a regular contributor to St Anthony's Brief and a homily giver par excellence. Behind all these talents he had a beautiful tenor voice which delighted all who heard him sing, and, in that regard, he wasn't the least bit shy. Tom never forgot his roots, he was a great follower of Dublin football and, in particular, his home club, St Brigid's. To say he left an indelible mark on life is an understatement. He wont be forgotten. Suaimhneas na bhFlaiteas dó. Frank.
Sincere condolences to Fr Tom's brothers & sister's and the franciscan cummunity on his sad passing. He was a lovely kind and gentle man and gave great consultation to those in need, a great listener,a man of many talents, least of all his book publications. Rest in peace.
