Fr. Tommy Lyons

I am saddened to read of the death of Fr. Tom. My sincere and heartfelt sympathy to all his family, friends and colleagues. Fr. Tom was a wonderful Chaplain in CUH. It was always a pleasure to meet and chat with him. He was a true gentleman who always showed genuine kindness and compassion. He will be truly missed. May Fr. Tom's gentle soul rest in peace.

I am very sorry to learn of the passing of Fr Tommy Lyons. Fr Tommy was my Geography Teacher at St Mary's College Galway from 1988-1990. Fr Tommy was also our Football Coach along with Fr Hogg. I have such fond memories from that time and what I have taken most from those days is how vulnerable we all were as children but how we had such Gentle and Kind Guardians like Fr Tommy who instilled in us a love of learning during our early adolescent years. I recall bumping into Fr Tommy along the corridors at school and he would ask would I be at Football Training. I liked how a teacher took interest in us and wanted us to grow in wisdom. I have not seen or talked with Fr Tommy since I was fourteen years old but I will always remember him and the goodness that radiated out from within his soul. God Bless You Fr Tommy and I hope one day to see You again. I will have a Mass said for Your intentions and I will light a Candle here at home for You on Your journey home. Thank You for everything that You were in this life.

Deepest sympathies to Fr.Tom's family on his sad passing. I met Tom on many occasions over the years in CUH where my wife was a patient and finally passed away. The kindness and comfort he showed to both of us will never be forgotten. She loved meeting and chatting with him. He was a true friend to us.

Saddened to hear that Fr Tom has died. The day was always alittle brighter after a chat, usually on the corridors of CUH He loved to share news of his trips back to Mayo while we both continued to hope Mayo would climb the steps! Sincere condolences to Sister Bridget and all the Lyons family on the loss of Father Tommy. He was a teacher in St Marys when I was a pupil there in the 1970s. He was firm but fair in all his dealings with us boarders. I am sure at times he needed the patience of several saints. His life was one of service to his community. He will be remembered fondly by many.

I was lucky to be a classmate and friend of his during our five years in St. Mary's College. He was also teaching in St. Mary's when our sons attended the school. It is with sadness that I read about Fr.Tommy's passing this morning.

My father, Maurice Lyons(Tommy's cousin) passed away in 1985.Tommy travelled from Galway to Cork that year to support our family on my wedding day in October,'85.
I've never forgotten his kindness.

It was with great sadness I heard of the death of Tommy. He was one of my closest friends during our seven years together in Maynooth and we maintained as much contact as we could, given the geographical distances that separated us, in the years since then. The description that Our Lord applied to Nathanael is very appropriate for Tommy, ‘an Israelite without guile’. Tommy was warm, caring and sincere, and a great friend. I have been evaluating whether I could travel to Tommy’s funeral Mass today but it upsets me that I had to come to the conclusion that I wouldn’t be able, due both to my own health issues at present and the length of the journey from Co. Limerick to Killawalla. My hope is that I will be able to visit his grave and pray there when my health improves. I offered Mass for Tommy yesterday. My sincere sympathy to all of you, members of Tommy’s family, on your great loss.

I wish to offer my condolences to Fr Tommy's family on his passing from this life to his heavenly home.I used to have kunch with Fr Tommy and another priest friend on a sunday in Cork. I loved forward to this every Sunday with such a kind and sincere priest. Loved
The stories of his life. May God now reward him for his work and give him the reward of his goodness. Mass offered for the happy repose of his good and gentle soul.

It is with regret that I read of the passing of Tommy this morning.
We had many a chat both in North London and again in Cork about all things Mayo GAA among other things.
Tommy was a very decent sincere nice man.
God rest him.
