Sincere condolences to all of Frances' family at this very sad time. She was a very special lady and we have lovely memories of all the happy times we shared with her in Courtown down through the years. Frances made two teddies for our children many, many years ago and these are still on the go and now treasured by our grandchildren. Frances will always be remembered with great affection.
Rest in Peace Frances.
Rest in Peace Frances.
Since condolences to Carolyn and all the family on your dear mothers passing after a long life well lived.
She was a force of nature and it was a privilege to know her and her confident daughter all those years ago. I never knew she was a Butler from Kilkenny but it makes sense that she was a scion of Ireland's Premier family.
She leaves a large footprint of love behind. May her memory be blessing.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold.
But hold it she did and raised a fine family of four daughters and two sons while doing so.
There’s a story which said she was once looking out the bedroom window at the school at the back of her garden. She saw David, who was a student there, being remonstrated with by a teacher. She went to the end of the garden, climbed over the wall and went to the classroom and confronted the teacher. It may be mythical, but I hope it isn’t. Frances Murphy was that sort of woman!
And all were welcome in her home. The living room served as a kind of Private Members’ Club to the local youth, which was ruled over by David with an iron fist clutching the TV remote. Sundays in the kitchen doing crosswords; Barbara always getting the difficult last clue! Listening to the top 40 hit parade on the radio on Thursday nights, hoping the Boomtown Rats’ new song had climbed higher. I can’t imagine my life without it.
But Mrs. Murphy had an inner life too. An avid reader and gardener with an artistic gift which she showed with her wonderful watercolours of her beloved Courtown, and the crocheted names on the tablecloth in the dining room, of those lucky enough to be invited to sign it.
This indefatigable matriarch of the Murphy family was one of a kind and the world is a sadder place without her. May she rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to the family of Frances on her death. My late mother was reared near to the Butlers in New St. All good friends growing up. My late aunt reconnected with the girls in USA and whenever she came here for a holiday, she always went to visit Frances in Dublin. They both loved the chat and catching up on their young days.
