Sincere sympathy to Pat, Joanne, Averil, Deirdre, Eoin, Rosemary, Colm and McCarthy family on the very sad passing of your beautiful mother and sister Frances. We have wonderful happy memories of Frances in Quaker Road and in our home in Langford Row. She was a wonderful, sincere friend to our late sister Imelda so kind, thoughtful and caring. Frances was extremely intelligent and very generous with her time and knowledge. Thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad and difficult time. May Frances gentle soul rest in peace. Therese xx
Happy memories of childhood cinema visits and parties hosted by Frances for her nieces & nephews - she taught me how to be.an aunt. She showed interest in everything we did and we were lucky that our children developed a great relationship with her when they came along, especially Ciara, her theatre buddy. Our multi-generational quiz team may not have won too many prizes, but always had an enjoyable night. Thanks for everything Fran. You’ll be greatly missed.

I remember all the great stories she told me as a child when I used to sleepover in Quaker Road and the times Frances slept over in my house while babysitting for me and my brothers. I have a lovely plant in my garden [in London] which grew from a cutting she gave me from her garden. We will all miss Frances and may she rest in peace.

Frances was a wonderful woman whose love, laughter, attitude to life, and writing, touched so many lives. We still quote lines of her poems, which spoke to and for so many of us, and made us laugh, cry, and think. She was the embodiment of Cuidiú - caring support - and we were lucky to know her.

I have so many wonderful memories of the big McCarthy family gatherings in Quaker Road. All the aunties, uncles, more cousins than I could count and neighbours all crammed under the one roof.
We were lucky to visit home in early 2020, and had the treat of hearing Frances sing at the Singers Club, one of the highlights of our visit.

So sad to hear of Frances’s passing. Have lovely memories of Cuidiú mornings in each other’s houses. Her gentle , radiant spirit is at last released.
“To consider that after the death of the body the spirit perishes,” ‘Abdu’l-Bahá has said “is like imagining that a bird in a cage will be destroyed if the cage is broken, though the bird has nothing to fear from the destruction of the cage. Our body is like the cage, and the spirit is like the bird…if the cage becomes broken, the bird will continue and exist. Its feelings will be even more powerful, its perceptions greater, and its happiness increased…”1

We bid our fondest farewell to the wonderful Frances. We will never forget the time we spent with her and her lovely family during our trip to Ireland a few years back. We enjoyed our visit to her and Pat's home, and when she accompanied us during our day trips with Colm and Lindsay. She was among the warmest, most generous people we have ever had the good fortune to meet. And so much fun! Frances was a beautiful light in this world, and she will be profoundly missed by all of us here. Our deepest condolences to Pat, Colm, his brother and sisters, and all of the family. You are, and will remain, in our thoughts.
