My father and I worked for many years with Francesco in Swiss Wire. What I remember most about him, is the cooking of pheasant and duck, from the many excursions he had, wafting through the canteen at break time.

Francesco Carlo De Regibus was my Father and Captain, a man of few words, a man of great wisdom. A man deserving of the greatest respect.
Born in the beautiful small village in Italy called Vogogna, a keen sportsman, he travelled to Milan to educate himself in mechanical engineering before venturing further to Switzerland to work and make a better life for himself and his Family.
It was there he met my Mother Angela, and it was there that I was born, Teodoro De Regibus, named after his brother and my Uncle who had already passed away at a young age.
His wish was to settle in Italy with his new family, but as fate would have it, we moved to Tralee instead.

He left everything behind for a new life in Ireland. I was the only child until I was 10 years old when my dearly departed sister Miriam arrived to join the family, shortly followed by my dear Brothers John and Frank.
Our early days were spent in Cloherbrien near the old Tralee Golf Course. I remember him taking me to CBS school on the back of his trusty Honda 50 every day.
His life there was more than difficult to begin with, Tralee being a place those days when “Foreigners” were feared and treated with distain to some extent. His resolve to learn to speak the language was steadfast and his tough nature served him well. He ploughed through all manner of inhospitable intellectual land and never gave up looking after his Children.
His passions were fishing and hunting where he found solace and peace from the din of life.
I am very saddened that he has passed through his last veil to the east and I am reminded of the words of the great bard Shakespeare, that we all travel upon the level of time “toward that undiscovered Country from whose borne no traveler returns”.

But we must also find some happiness. Happy that we were blessed to have him near us and that life is not over for him because he is still alive within his Three Sons who can now fully become the best of who we are along with the best of who he is. We carry his light within us burning brighter now. Even though I myself have travelled afar, he was always in my thoughts, and I often catch a brief glimpse of him in the mirror.
Our Father is still alive within his children. We are now the Captains of our own ships, but we sail under his guidance.
Thank you, Dear Father, for giving me life, I owe you everything. Farewell. Gods Speed.
