Francis Joseph (Frank) Pelly

To our extended Irish Pelly family, condolences for the loss of our Francis Joseph (Frank) Pelly who has left us too soon. Frank's remarkable genealogy research of our Irish Pelly Family Roots has left us with an excellent legacy base for us Aussies to continue Frank's - Irish Pelly Family Tree history. Thanks to Frank's perseverance & research skills we now can link back to Peter Pelly (1623-1691) of Co. Galway, Ireland and his Pelly's of Poole, Co. Dorset, UK Ancestry. We send the Frank Pelly family an Aussie Irish Blessing:-

My sincere condolences on the passing of Frank to his wife Margaret, his beloved Children and grandchildren. Also my sincere and heartful sympathises to Veronica, Maureen, Heidi and Michelle. We grew up in the Curragh as neighbours with Sally,Miss Culhane, Heidi and Michelle and often met Frank when he was home doing jobs inside and out. Frank was such a lovely young man, quiet, hard working, gentle and kind. As a young school girl, I worked in Mrs Pellys shop during the summer holidays where I got to know Frank along with Veronica and Maureen who lived away. It was a pleasure to know Frank and may his gentle soul rest in peace 🙏 . Cecily( McArdle ) Quinn ❤️

I'm shocked to hear of Frank's death, and I express my condolences to his family. Frank was my best friend growing up across the Mall in Castlebar. He was endlessly inventive - building harbours out of concrete in the hotel's yard, putting on plays in the outhouses, building huts in the hayloft and in Pelly's field beyond the tennis courts, driving the cow home in the evening for milking from the field in the graveyard, stealing the odd cigarette which we smoked in the sheds, his father Hycie driving in the evening around Lough Nafooey, the car filled with kids - Maureen and Veronica as well - a magical childhood which he gave to me. I think of him very fondly. May he rest in peace.

So very sad to hear dear Frank has passed. I had the honour of working closely with him for six years in the Civil Engineering Dept in Irish Lights. I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Frank from the Raheny Heritage Society and taking his tour of the Baily Lighthouse, and clearly he was a wonderful person. Sincere condolences to Frank's family on the occasion of his passing. He was always very kind and patient with me whenever I came to him looking for information. He will certainly be remembered by most people who served in Irish Lights and by the many whom he helped to discover their lightkeeping heritage. His dedication to lighthouse history in this country should not be underestimated and I, for one, feel so much gratitude to him for all his selfless work in this area. He was a long standing member of IFHS and spoke last November at our 40th Anniversary Conference about the early days of the society. He was extremely knowledgeable, supportive and committed to the work of genealogy, local history and of course the history of Irish Lights. I experienced this kindness firsthand when I joined both RHS and IFHS. May his gentle soul find eternal rest

I'm so sorry to hear of Frank's passing. I got to know Frank through a shared interest in the Pelly family tree. His research was as extensive as his eagerness to share it with me, and I am forever indebted to him for his generosity which has expanded my knowledge of our shared heritage beyond anything I could have imagined. He was a gentleman of the old school, always so courteous in correspondence, and it was a pleasure to have known him.
