Franny, my first love. My heart broke when I heard yesterday. My memories of whiling away afternoons listening to Nick Drake and the wedding present (heather!) one summer a long time ago have always stayed with me. I will so miss hearing your voice and laugh in our random phone calls over the years. You were a very beautiful, special and wonderful person. On behalf of the Officers and members of the Galway Association of New York,I extend to the entire Kelly family our heartfelt condolences on Franny’s untimely passing. Our past president Franny was beloved inside and outside of the Association. Coming from a city with a great Gaelic tradition and having a surname as old as Ireland itself, he represented his race and county in the truest fashion. With a sharp mind and wit, he befriended people from many different backgrounds and cultures, and in doing so he raised people’s opinions of his own. He loved his adopted country,the freedom and opportunities it provided, while keeping a strong connection to his hometown, especially to his beloved Galway United,and maintaining a great love of Gaelic games and Irish culture that he shared with others.

Franny left a trail of kindness and decency wherever he travelled, and for that alone his family can be justly proud.

May he Rest In Peace.

My deepest sympathies to Mr and Mrs Kelly and the entire Kelly family. First time I met Franny was at Failte on 2nd ave in NYC to interview him for a place on my team at Wiley. He joined us soon after and made many friends at Wiley with his wit, honesty, generosity and unique recognition of the absurd! He was always fun to be around and made so many people comfortable and welcome with his openness and his humor. He spoke of his family often and I am certain loved Jim’s touching tribute and his nieces and nephews beautiful words yesterday. Last time I heard from Franny he sent me a photo of a street sign with my last name near his new home that he got out of his car and took. Said it reminded him of me and asked how my wife and I were doing. That was Franny. I will always remember him with a smile on my face. May God bless him.
