Francis Michael (better known as Miko) Cullinan

Condolences to all Michael’s family at this sad time. RIP

Miko slipped away quietly on Sunday, exactly as he had lived - softly and gently. The sadness was again felt in Toonagh, a mere 7 months after Tony's death.

Miko was a lovely gentleman, came from a strong musical family and played the black concert flute. He was encouraged by both parents Maryann and Paddy, who were steeped in music, dancing and culture. The 4 Cullinan brothers regularly played together in their younger days and Miko won at least one Munster title at a Fleadh, then went on to play with several ceili bands.

In London known as Mick, he was a popular man to the Irish, giving work in his butchers "The Golden Vale" and later in his bar "The Burren Inn". On Sundays Betty cooked breakfast for the masses that arrived after hurling and nobody ever paid. Miko's passion was hurling and his involvement with Desmonds GAA Club in London played a huge part in many Clare peoples' lives. He served in every position with the club including Manager of the senior hurling team and even lined out himself for their juniors! His popularity was exemplified when he returned to Ireland 25 years ago to live in Roslevan and became involved in the St. Joseph's Doora/Barefield set-up.

Miko was predeceased by the love of his life Betty, he will be sadly missed by Mike, Desmond and Maeve, by his lovely brother P.J. who also emigrated to the UK, by relatives, friends, neighbours - he was a friend to all. Condolences to everybody whose life Miko touched and may he rest in peace.

Miko was a selector for the Desmonds team I played for in London. He was a passionate hurling man and did a lot of work on behalf of the Club. He always gave me great encouragement to play well.
