Shocked to hear of Peter's passing and sincere condolences to his family and friends. He was my history teacher in the 80's and had a profound impact on my motivation to get my honour in Leaving Cert, against all odds. Very sad news indeed. RIP
Deepest sympathy to Peter's family at this difficult time. He was an excellent teacher and an absolute gentleman.
Our deepest sympathies Collette, Niamh, Larry and to all your families and friends on your huge loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Peter and working with him and Caroline Clarke while I was on the Parent’s Council in St Mary’s DS. He was a complete gentleman. May he rest in peace.
Dear Niamh and family
Sincere condolences on the untimely loss of your wonderful father. We know how close you were and how proud you were of each other. May the memories you have of so many happy times spent together give you strength in the difficult moments. Take care of yourself and each other.
He was a lovely man to talk to,always would help you if you had a problem. My condolences to all the family. Thinking of you all at this sad time.
Heartfelt sympathies to Collette, Niamh, Larry and everyone who loved Peter. We keep you in our thoughts and prayers at this time of immense loss. May he rest gently in peace.
So sorry to hear of Peters passing. What a lovely guy and excellent teacher. RIP
I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr McInerney’s sudden passing. Like many others, I was lucky enough to learn firsthand what an outstanding teacher he was. It’s no easy task to get a group of 15yr old lads to have an engaging chat about Romeo and Juliet but he could do it. He was a great advocate of the spider diagram - few class discussions were complete without one! What I remember most of all was how he treated and spoke to us like adults and how he would always have time to stop and chat if you ever bumped into him after you had left St Mary’s. He will he sadly missed. RIP Mr Mac.
Sincere condolences from a past pupil of Peter a gent
Deepest sympathies to Collette, Niamh and Larry on the death of Peter. Peter was such a popular teacher in school and was always courteous and kind whenever we met subsequently. Peter is joining some other teachers of that era in heavenly rest. Leaba i measc na naomh go raibh aige.
So sorry to hear about Peter. What a special, lovely man and great teacher. I always looked forward to his english and history lessons. My favourite parts were when he digressed and spoke passionately about his likes (and dislikes) especially in relation to food and travel. His opinions shaped many of my decisions, and my enjoyment of life is enhanced for them. Although it has been a long time since he taught me, I still think of him often. My thoughts are with Collette and family at this sad time.
My deepest heartfelt condolences to you Colette, to PeterLarry and Niamh on the untimely loss of a great husband and committed father.
I have too many fond memories of Peter to share here so instead let me say this, He may be gone but Peter most certainly will never be forgotten because he was a good man who made such a difference to so many lives.

Rest in peace Peter.

Justine
Very sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Peter. We were altar servers together in Phibsborough long ago and later went through college together. I was very fond of Peter and have many happy memories of our times together, but unfortunately we lost touch after our paths in life separated. May he now rest in peace with the Lord of Love!
It's 17 years since I attended St. Mary's. Mr. McInerney was my favourite teacher (definitely top 2!) and over the years I've frequently thought about things he said. I had him as an English teacher for 5 years. I remember hoping that I would still be in his class after the Junior Cert. He was a great teacher with interesting perspectives and lessons to share both on the subject of English and of life.

Condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
Niamh, and family, Our deepest sympathy on the passing of your dear Dad, Peter. He sounds like he was an amazing man, and will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. May Peter Rest in Peace.

Sincere condolences Collette and family on the sudden passing of Peter. It was a pleasure to work with him and then under him when he was Vice Principal. Aston Villa will have a twelfth man with Peter from above in the Champions League next year. An absolute gentleman, gone too soon, may he rest in peace.
Very saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. McInerney. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word and immaculate in his appearance every day. He taught me during my Leaving Cert. in 1987. He was a very knowledgeable man that took great pride in his teaching. I looked forward to his class as he was not only brilliant in his teaching but treated us all kindly and fairly. Rest in eternal peace.

Thinking of you and your family Collette at this sad time. Rest in peace Peter.
Back in the early seventies this dapper Dub, known to us all as Mr.McInerney opened our minds to Yeats, G.B.S. and Oliver St.John Gogarty. He always showed great respect to his pupils, and I hope we reciprocated. There will be many St.Mary's CBS pupils around the world today sad at his passing. Deepest condolences to Colette and family.
Sincerest condolences to Collette Niamh and Peter Laurie on the sudden passing of Peter we have such fond memories of him both in Bryanstown and St.Marys D.S.

Very sad to hear of Mr McInerney's passing. I used to look forward to his double history class on Friday after lunch. He was a wonderful, entertaining teacher and a real gentleman. I learned a lot from the man and he will be deeply missed. Rest in peace.
Very saddened to hear of Mr. McInerney's passing. I was privileged to have had Mr McInerney as my history teacher, when I was a student in St. Mary's.

I was shocked to hear about the sad and untimely passing of Peter. I met himself and Joe Sweeney having lunch in the Black Bull only a couple of weeks ago, and had a laugh with them about when they were my teachers in the 1970’s. Teaching is a profession not appreciated by students at the time but certainly is later in life. My condolences to all his family.
My sincere condolences to the McInerney family. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. May Peter rest in peace.
A treasured colleague and friend for my whole working life, may you rest in peace Peter certain that you have lived a most admirable life. My deepest sympathies to Collette, Niamh and Larry.
Dear Collette, Niamh and Larry, we were so sad to hear about Peter. He would come out to see us on the green on our visits to Bryanstown and it was always lovely to chat to him. May he rest in peace.
My sincerest condolences to Colette and all of Peter's family at this sad time.

Peter taught me English for each of the five years that I attended St. Mary's DS. He was also my year head for each of the five years. He was one of my favourite teachers and very skilled and knowledgeable at his work.

He was also a consummate gentleman and a pleasure to deal with, whatever the issue may have concerned, including personal matters.

I am sure he will be remembered fondly by very many past students of the school.

May he rest in peace. Amen.
Deepest sympathy to Collette Niamh & Larry on the death of cousin Peter.
Always a gentle and pleasant person with a great sense of humour.
Knew him for seventy years going back to the days when he lived in Phibsborough with Babbins and family.
He was always good fun to be with and had a great interest in education and making a difference in peoples lives.
Good night sweet Prince and flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest.
Sincere condolences to Colette, Niamh, Larry and extended families on the sad loss of Peter. A true gentleman and dedicated teacher. Will be greatly missed by one and all. RIP.
It is so sad to read of Mr. McInerney as I knew him in the Leaving Cert. English class of 1973 in St Mary’s CBS. He was truly inspirational and had a profound influence on my future life. When he was asked in class one day how he would measure his success as an English teacher, he thought for a moment and replied ‘ if I meet you at some future time in the auditorium of the Abbey Theatre I will know that I succeeded’. I’m sure I can speak for all who he inspired when I say May Peter Rest in Peace. My sincere condolences to all his family.
