Frank was a great community leader and friend of our club. A committed and idealistic man with a great sense of humour, he will be much missed by our members who he served so well as a public representative over the years. Ar Dheis De go raibh sé.

John and Katherine sincere sympathy on the sad passing of your wonderful Dad Frank. May his gentle soul rest in peace
John and Katherine, it was an honour to join you all in paying tribute to your wonderful Dad, Frank at his recent funeral. We have such fond memories of Frank and Eileen, both of whom were wonderful in encouraging and mentoring us -- along with so many others -- when we were young Labour members -- initially in UCD, through Labour Youth and Labour Left. In addition, Frank and Eileen were such enjoyable company and we especially remember being at the same table as them at Conor Ryan's wedding to Sarah Angel outside Bristol. Frank's passing is such a sad loss for you but he has left a wonderful legacy to us all.
To Katherine and John,
So sad to hear of your fathers passing. Frank was a mine of information and knowledge as I said to Gordon I hope you were taking notes. He will be deeply missed by the kids Toby, David and Orna. They were lucky to have gotten to know him so well.
Take care you are always in our thoughts

I was saddened to learn of Frank’s passing. A top class man, sincere condolences to his family.
John and Katherine, please accept our sincerest condolences on the decease of your Dad, Frank whom we knew for over 45 years. Frank and I were on the TUI Executive Committee together and he served on the Board of Management of BCS for many years. He had a warm disposition and an innate sense of decency. He worked all his life to help those less fortunate and always put the common good above his own advancement. He certainly has fought the good fight. May he now rest in peace with his beloved Eileen.
John, really sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing.

Frank was manning the Labour desk in UCD in 1986 when I joined up. He was a constant positive presence during my time in UCD, advising, helping, cajoling, always organising.

I only realised later how important he was to the wider Labour movement. Working with fellow comrades in Labour Left to keep the party on track and helping to drag the country out of social and economic stagnation.

Frank and your Mam Eileen lived their beliefs. We were lucky to know them.

I first met Frank Buckley in the early 80’s, in fact he was the first Labour activist I encountered and he made a lasting impression. Frank was above all honest and passionate about contributing to society, particularly for those marginalised or forgotten. A remarkable contribution to public life.

Deepest sympathy to all Frank’s family. I first met Frank in the 1970s when we were both teaching in Dublin VEC schools. We would regularly meet at Union meetings, at Labour Party events and campaigns, curriculum projects, Labour history and cultural events. It all seemed like a seamless tapestry of overlapping and complementary interests and commitments. He was always cheerful, positive and bright. It remained a pleasure to meet Frank and Eileen in recent years. Tá laoch ar lár.

When Frank spoke, people listened. He was an immense presence in our Party. He and Eileen both stood up and fought for justice, equality and fairness at local and national levels. As Leader of the Labour Group on Dublin County Council he led the charge against corruption and rezoning. He always did what was right. Frank was a great supporter to new candidates. We will miss him on the campaign trails, his friendship and sharp wit. It was truly a privilege to know him. RIP

Sad to hear that Frank has passed away, May he Rest in Peace. Got to know Frank in 1973, when we were members of the then single TUI Dublin Branch. Frank was a really fine man, great fun, and with his late wife Eileen, deeply committed to teaching and the Labour Party. He was an outstanding Dublin Councillor, leading the Labour group during the years when it was the only Party opposing corrupt planning and rezoning in Dublin. Frank made an immense contribution to our Party, and to education, which will be long remembered. Our sympathy to Katherine, John, and all his family in Clare.

In conversations with Frank over the years his pride in Eileen and family was always evident.
He and Eileen were prominent and active members of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland, always reminding colleagues of their potential to affect social change.
During his time as member of Dublin Co.Council he witnessed some of the worst practices between public representatives, developers and others while he and his Labour colleagues were responsible for some of the best.
