FRANK CALLANAN

Shocked to hear of Frank's sudden passing. Sincere sympathy to all who mourn his death. Especially Bridget, his family and his colleagues at the bar. I was talking to Frank just before Xmas about the joys of Greece.

Deepest sympathies to Jean, Bridget and the Callanan family. Frank was a resolute champion of equality who played a vital role in embedding equality law in legal practice. He will be greatly missed.

My Frank was a rock, a walker-bike pusher home from parties with me throughout UCD days and then sporadic dinner companion, godfather to my daughter, generous host in Paris. Unobtrusive observer of the world and holder of centre stage, simultaneously. His declaration (in 1980? 1990?) that most Abba songs had tragedy at their heart was typical of his many words of wisdom on a wide range of subjects - not necessarily actually accurate but always thought-provoking - that stuck with me. Husband Adair took to him immediately - how could he not?
And I know that “my Frank” was equally special, equally loyal, equally kind and generous to so many others, while excelling in multiple parallel careers. The world without Frank is less bright.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on Frank's passing.
While I was not in touch regularly with Frank, I first met him in early 90s and we would always enjoy a chat at an occasional dinner party or in more recent times a wave in the street,as he cycled by.
I can only imagine the incredulity and sorrow you must all feel. Thinking of you at this particularly emotional time. May Frank Rest in Peace and may you feel some sense of solace in the days, weeks and time to come.
We carry those close to us even closer in our hearts when they leave and in time they come to feel even more present, in an enfolding ambience that endures.

Mr. Frank Callanan, supported me in a case with understanding, solid guidance, kindness, and great humour. When I needed help, Mr. Frank Callanan was on my side. Mr. Callanan is a decent, hounouable, man and Ireland is at a loss for his untimely passing.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Frank's sudden and untimely death. Frank was one of life's true gentlemen and was always very engaging company. I watched the livestreaming of his funeral Mass and was deeply touched by the moving tributes to him from his family and friends. It was a truly sad occasion. Very sad to learn of Frank's passing long before his time. Somehow it too often seems to be the best among us who are taken first (though there are exceptions, as I am reminded of the contrast that I last spoke to Frank a few weeks ago at the funeral of my wonderful aunt who had almost become a centenarian). I am deeply saddened to learn of Frank's untimely passing. Frank began to call to my drycleaning business on Upper Baggot Street from the time we opened in 1986 and he remained as a loyal and deeply respected supporter for over 27 years, up until we closed in 2013. Frank would always call on his way home, generally Tuesday and Friday evenings. Sometimes he would drop in just for a chat, a very engaging gent who was so interested in everyones story. Frank was always kind, generous and a very very decent gentleman. May you rest in peace.

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Frank so suddenly . I remember him from College days and from dealing with him on some judicial review cases .especially during my time in the Chief State Solicitor’s Office. Sincere condolences to the Callanan family on Frank's passing. Frank was kind enough to let me occupy his desk in the Law Library in my devilling year, and for several years thereafter. He never once moved me on, or implied that I was in the way. He always had a kind word or a joke, when he came by. He had many virtues, but I will never forget his generosity and kindness.

Frank was a wonderful man, a gifted lawyer and historian who earned gratitude and admiration for his kindness, decency and generosity of spirit. My heart goes out to my friend Bridget.

Frank was representing me for a just outcome . I had quoted Frank a wonderful scripture which Frank was in accord with . Frank certainly showed me Kindness and was pursuing justice for me as he has done for other underdogs .
