Deepest sympathy to Frank’s family. He was a real gentleman and will be sadly missed by all, Dublin City will never be the same without that smile he had for friends and people he met on his walks. Rest in peace Frank. You must have the best bed in heaven.

I was so sorry to hear of the tragedy that led to Frank Daly's passing. The city was his village and his presence made it a better, friendlier place. He was an example to us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
We had known Frank only for a couple of months from meeting him on Sunday mornings, drinking his tea in Dunnes in the ILAC, after his Sunday mass at the Cathedral. I always go to that café with my wife and children after attending holy mass in St. Saviour's and always found him sitting at the same table without fail. My three-year old son, without having ever met him before, always waived happily at him and he waved back and gently smiled back at him. After eating a pastry and drinking our coffee, we would get up and get ready to leave and then my son would run to his chair and wave goodbye at him, who smiled and waved back. Seeing this, other people would also sometimes wave at my child but he ignored them - he would only turn to Frank and waved at him. I think that made Frank very happy and I like to think he waited there for us every Sunday to get his personal greeting from our child. I know we did look forward every Sunday to meeting him and to seeing my child happily waving at him, which made us really happy. Last Sunday, when we entered the same café, we sat down at the usual table, we turned around and we saw his usual table and the empty seat and our hearts sank and our eyes filled with tears and we told our son that the good Grandad went to heaven.
Deepest condolences to Franks family. May he rest in peace.

I was shocked to learn of Fran Daly's tragic death.I occasionally met Fran in town and was always,as a former East Waller, anxious to get local news.
I usually spotted Fran before he saw me....he had a distinctive laid-back,take-nothing- out- of- yourself, way of walking.!!.....and he never failed to give me info on how the older crowd in East Wall were getting on.
I'll miss not being able to see Fran strolling around town again.
My condolences to Elisabeth,Patricia and especially Dermot ( with whom I hung out, as kids, in the mid-fifties.Condolences, too ,to neighbours and friends on the Bargy.

When I joined The Irish Times in 1986 for the start up of the new colour press in D'Olier Street I noticed a chap in the Despatch who always gave me a huge warm smile. Working together on nights, Frank Daly was one of the very first to befriend me. He always had a kind word delivered with his customary smile, particularly on the nights when things were going really bad on the press. Frank was special, he was a true gentle gentleman with never a harsh word.
In 1989 following my accident on the printing press I can still hear Frank shouting from the crowd seeing me off "He's Back! He's Back" as the stretcher I was to lie on shot out onto the middle of Fleet Street just as the ambulance sped away to take me to hospital.
So rest peacefully in Heaven my friend because I have no doubt that you went there straight away. Frank you will never know the lives you touched by your smile and just being you. Thank you for your friendship and your beaming smile and for your support over our many many years in The Irish Times. May you rest peacefully Frank. Condolences to all your family. 🙏

To the Daly family, my sincere condolences to you all , on the passing of Frank. He was a true Gentle man who i loved having chats with in Paddy powers and at the number 53 bus stop. Rip Frank you will be missed xx
Rip frank .a lovely man
My heart goes out to the Daly family on the loss of lovely Frank. He had that rare blend of warmth, humour, and quiet charm that made you feel instantly at ease in his company. I first met him nine years ago in Neary’s, where he was enjoying his lunch and somehow managed to deliver a compliment so kind—and so public—that dissolved me into embarrassment. He just gave that trademark smile of his, as if to say, “Well, someone had to brighten the day.” From that moment on, we kept in touch, and I’m grateful for every conversation we shared.
Frank carried himself with gentle dignity, quick wit, and kindness that stays with you long after you’d said goodbye. He had a gift of making people feel seen, appreciated, and a little bit lighter than before.
He will be deeply missed—not only by his beloved family, but by all of us who were lucky enough to cross paths with him. As he takes his leave from this world, may he be welcomed gently with open arms by the angels, though I’ve no doubt he’ll have them charmed within minutes of arrival.
May his soul rest in everlasting peace, and may the Daly family find comfort and strength in the many warm memories he leaves behind.
