Frank FLANAGAN

Just after hearing from a mutual acquaintance of Frank's sad passing. Had the privilege of having Frank as a teaching practice supervisor and Lecturer in Philosophy in Mary Immaculate College. Have hugely fond memories of his his professionalism, caring nature and unique sense of humour. His unapologetic belief in traditional values is also something he'll be fondly recalled for. May Frank rest in peace and deepest condolences to his wife Moira, children Áine, Caitlín, Eoghan and Eamonn, brother Peter, sister Mary and extended family and friends. Suffice to say he left behind a trove of very happy memories. Requiescant in Pace.

Farewell Mr Flanagan, the best teacher I ever had who inspired me to be challenging and Innovative. It was good to swap a few emails in the past years and indeed to read his first fictional novel "Here and Now". Remembering great times in Belgove National School , Clontarf, when mr Flanagan put me in charge of the South America Paper Mache Map project !

Joining MIC as a staff member in the late 1990's, I will always remember Frank's wonderful support for colleagues in the union and his critical and acutely intelligent understanding of authentic education. While Frank had been in MIC before I joined in 2011, I had been familiar always with Frank's wonderful publication 'The Great Educators', which has introduced so many to the central importance of philosophy in Education, a need that has never been greater than in these times. I also read his recent publication 'Here and Now', and enjoyed each and every page. I had let Frank know that I was looking forward to the sequel.
