Great memories of the chats and laughs in the Standhouse leisure centre over many years. The word gentleman is often used and in Frank's case it is spot on. He was proud of his west Offaly roots and he always spoke so lovingly of his family.

Frank, the divil in you made sure that I would never forget how the Faithful shocked the Cats in the 1980 Leinster Hurling Final, the start of great hurling times for Offaly. During the 1970’s we got to know each other playing hurling for Curragh Command teams and Suncroft. At the end of the decade we decided our hurling days were over, you in your 40’s and I scarcely 30. For the next decade and a half we took to the roads together, running in the second Dublin marathon in 1981 and many more thereafter, including a couple in London where along the way we got to know the Curragh Plains, our training ground, in all weathers and all seasons. Over those hundreds and hundreds of miles the chats, the arguments, and the ‘hurling one up manship’ especially with Offaly in hurling ascendancy created a very special bond. But that day in September 1982 when I met you at back of the Cusack Stand after the Seamus Darby goal stopped the Kerry five in a row probably capped the lot. Behind all the running, hurling, football and soldiering I was privileged to know you as an honourable, decent human being, a real gentleman. I am so sorry that I allowed Covid and its aftermath get between us meeting for a chat. Oh! and about the few pound I still owe you for laying the carpets, decades ago in my new house, I promise I’ll have it on me when we meet again.
Ann, Caroline, Richard and Mark, I hope that his time spent with you, with all of us, will become a great comfort in time. Rest in Peace Frank.
