FRANK GILLESPIE

Even though I hadn't met Frank for some years I was quite saddened to learn of his passing. I was one of his class mates and friends in his secondary school years in Bantry. Frank was always interesting company, very well read and calm. He always had a passionate interest in the English soccer league(s). He often discussed with me the writings of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell - he was interested in verbalising the inequities of this world. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and I would like to extend my sincere condolences (and those of my other siblings) to his sons, David & Declan & their families, on their heart-braking loss. May Frank rest in peace. Michael O'Riordan.

My sincere sympathies to the Gillespie family. Frank's gentle, calm and cultured energy across the chessboard will be missed on our Wednesday afternoon battles at Coulsdon Chess Club. A real gentleman.

We will so miss Frank at Langtry House. He was a natural leader, regularly organising and hosting film nights for the other residents, and keeping a regular check that services were operating as they should be. No details was too much for him.

I had only been at Langtry house for 2 months when I assisted him with arrangements for the Christmas Party, and shock horror - M&S stopped party food deliveries. We were in M&S Bromley at 8am when it opened on the Saturday morning with a list as long as your arm and only £150 in the kitty, and with his precise calculations in the midst of a heaving throng our bill came in at £149.90! It was a lovely evening and we will definitely have a place setting in our hearts for him this year.

Rest in peace, Uncle Frank. My condolences to his sons David and Declan the extended Gillespie families. I have fond memories of Frank when we visited Bantry in our youth. Frank was finishing up at Trinity when I was starting at UCD. I remember him helping me sneak into the Trinity Ball! We had a good night! He always had a lovely sense of mischief and a smart humor! Always remembered.

My sincere condolences to all of Frank’s family. I have great memories of our younger days in Bantry. The last time we met was in London some 15 years ago, when we shared a warm, thought-provoking conversation over coffee that lasted for hours. Rest in peace, Frank.

My deep sympathies to all of Frank’s relatives. That is a fantastic photograph that captured all of Frank as he was when I sat beside him in the basement of the Boys’ Club for Leaving Cert. He was intelligent, kind and had a streak of mischief. He was the first person from the school to go to Trinity College and his courses were economics and politics, well removed from the vocationally focussed courses that attracted the few students who went to UCC. He was an original. I very much regret not seeking him out since I called to him in Trinity in 1974. We always think we’ll do it next year, but we should do it now. RIP.

I have fond memories of Frank when we were growing up together in Bantry . Always a gentleman.
