Frank McEvilly

Sincere sympathy to Frank’s family at this sad time. I only recently heard the shocking news of Frank’s passing and as a former student, all I can do is echo the sentiments of many others when I say that Frank was truly an inspirational teacher. His sense of fun made every day in his class a pleasure and his boundless enthusiasm for his subject was apparent to every one of us. He was one of the good guys and someone who’d go out of his way to help out his students if he possibly could. He’ll be missed by so many people.

It is with deep sadness that GRETB received the sad news that Frank has passed away unexpectedly. Frank was a much loved, respected and valued member of the teaching team at VTOS Centre, Galway, and contributed so much to the development of this programme in the City. Frank’s colleagues at VTOS Galway and the wider GRETB community mourn the loss of a vibrant, competent, committed and talented teacher and advocate.
On behalf of the GRETB Board, the CE, Senior Management Team and staff at GRETB, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to Frank’s wife, Sinéad, his children Cadhla and Rory, his mother Mary, his brothers Christopher, Declan and Liam, his extended family and friends and all who mount his loss. Teachers have incredible power to inspire learning and create important change in people’s lives, in our centres and communities. We thank Frank for being that source of inspiration and instigator of change for so many young people and those returning to education and training.

Frank was a teacher and mentor of mine in Vtos from 2013 to 2015. He was a fountain of knowledge. He was also a good mate and a fellow sound engineer as we remained in contact since.
He guided me in the right direction and I wouldn't be where I am now without him and I'm so thankful to him for that. He was an important person in my life.
I only heard the news on Sunday and I am deeply shocked and saddened.
The man was a legend. May he rest in peace.

Deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Franks passing, a lovely guy and musician, my brother Tony was in Wikdside with him and his brother Declan for a few years, a great local band which I luckily got to do a few gigs with them too. Frank had some great original songs he wrote they used to do with some great cover tunes. The few times I bumped into Frank the last few years, he still had that big hearty laugh and smile, a proud family man content with life. Gone too soon but will never be forgotten God bless him, Sincere condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Frank taught me for 2 years in VTOS. I clearly remember his energy and enthusiasm the first day I met him. He made a huge impact on me in this time. He became more than just a teacher, but a friend and a role model. He was so caring and humble in his thoughts and actions, and helped me through a difficult stage in my life.

Learning of his death was a deep shock, and its difficult to accept I won’t be able to see him again. Frank imparted his invaluable knowledge and experience that I will be forever grateful for. I’ve read a lot of the condolences, and its truly amazing the effect Frank has had on his family, friends, students and colleagues. I always wanted Frank to know how much appreciation and respect I have for him, and he should be eternally proud for the change he has made to peoples lives on this earth. I’ve been thinking about him a lot since i heard the news, and while death is always a difficult thing to cope with, Franks passing has been a difficult one. Galway won’t be the same without him.

A true gentleman and legend with so much ahead of him.
My thoughts will be with his children, wife and family.

Words cannot truly capture the sense of loss and shock felt on hearing of Frank’s sudden and untimely passing. Frank was a warm, friendly and welcoming presence in VTOS, who was not only cheerful in himself but gave cheerfulness to others. We have lost, and will miss, a lovely colleague and a much admired and respected teacher. May he rest in peace.
