I am so sorry to learn of Frank’s passing. My deepest sympathy to his family. Frank had a very big influence on me as a pupil of his in St Laurence College. In particular I will always be grateful to him for the help he gave me following a car accident at Easter 1974. At least twice a week for a number of weeks he gave his time to visit me in the National Rehabilitation Centre to give me Maths lessons. His generosity and dedication enabled me to sit the Leaving Cert in June.
Rest in Peace Frank McGuinness from all the Costello past pupils.

Frank McGuinness, you were a blessing to the students, the parents, the teachers and the administrators of St. Laurence College during you 34 years as vice-Principal. Thank you. May you rest in peace.
Mr Mc Guinness was a legend in St. Laurence's ..... I doubt if there was ever a student that his voice didn't spark fear into. He had the knack of always being in the right place to catch any messing that was going on and his voice was enough to call a halt instantly. Always a fair man, he gave respect and commanded it in return.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends, may he rest in peace and happiness.

Dear Angela, John, Mary and Fergal,
I was so sad to hear of Uncle Frank’s passing. I have been missing his late night calls, where he would check in to see how all of my siblings and our families had been doing. He and Angela were always kind and welcoming when we would come to visit.
He will be sadly missed. Thinking of all of you in this difficult time.

Frank left a lasting positive impression on all of the students. I told him so years later. A brilliant teacher, a clever and inspiring educator who embodied the values we were being taught. He inspired respect and just enough fear. He did what every teacher aspires to do. He made our lives better whether we liked it or not. Thank you for the memories. You will never be forgotten. RIP.
Very sorry to learn about Mr. McGuinness’s sad passing. I remember him fondly during my time as a student in St.Laurence’s College. He was a true gentleman, a good mentor, witty, always fair as a disciplinarian. He was respectful to everyone and respected by students in return. Sincere condolences to his beloved wife, Angela, his children and the extended family. Rest in Peace Frank.🙏🏻🙏🏻 Michael Kenny ( Class of ‘73)
Sincere condolences to the McGuinness family on the passing of Mr McGuinness. Stern is the word that also comes to mind when I think of him during those St Laurence College days, but also integrity. I remember one day he confiscated a pair of earrings I was wearing as I had my ears pierced twice a big no-no back then - I never felt more like a rebel! May he rest in peace - Aisling Delahunty (nee Hickey). Class of '89
Sincere condolences to the Mc Guinness Family. I have many fond memories of Mr Mc Guinness over the years, an excellent teacher and as head of discipline he had the stern presence down to a fine art, he was always fair and very creative, collecting golf balls (1 or 2 of my brothers), donating to charity (me). Many a time I heard ‘McConnell what are you up to’ and then he would give a wry smile and glide off down the corridor. A gentleman, May you rest in peace Mr McGuinness

I have very fond memories of Frank living with my family (my mother was his sister) in Sandymount in the 1960's. My fondest memories are from St. Laurence's College where Frank was my maths teacher and what a teacher he was, absolutely brilliant! He was firm, fair, funny, friendly and always treated me like every other student (not that they knew of our relationship), no favours asked and none given. I always enjoyed our games of golf in later years in Woodbrook GC.
My sincere condolences to Angela, John, Mary and Fergal at this very sad time. May Frank Rest in Peace.

As one of the first students in St Laurence College I came to respect Mr McGuiness as a good teacher, a fair disciplinarian, and he made a great contribution to the new college and our education.

My memories of Mr Mc Guinness are all fond ones. He definitely had a stern presence about him but he was always fair. He caught me smoking once, I begged him not to tell my parents. He didn’t. But he made me shake a can for the blind after each mass that Sunday. Fair. Rest in peace Mr Mc Guinness, you deserve it. Also, if you can do anything to help with the match today , do! 💚
Condolences to Mr McGuinness family. He was a teacher who made a lasting positive impression on all students of St Laurence's. He was fair but strict a necessity in all schools. Rest in peace Mr McGuinness. Play the fairways of heaven.
My sincere condolences to Mr McGuinness’ family and friends.
In another message here, Audrey Flood (now Power) of the St Laurence’s class of ‘75 has already put it better.
“Mr McGuinness”, as we knew him, was a much loved teacher. As deputy head, he may have played the role of the disciplinarian but his true nature was obvious to all from his fairness and his wry sense of humour - even if sometimes his delivery had to be in a stern tone.
As he sped home in his old yellow Triumph Herald, he displayed his sense of fun, going to where he was happiest and could be Frank, his true self.
We were not privileged to know him outside school but I am sure the qualities we appreciated made him a very good man at home and in the outside world.

I remember him from my day's as a student in St. Laurence Collage. I remember one day I was trying to slip out of school early and as I was about to go out the door a voice bommed out "Where are you supposed to be?" Golf ball duties for me the next day! A strict but very fair man. May he Rest in Peace 🙏.

Sincere condolences to the family of Mr. McGuinness, I have so many fond memories of him teaching me maths for 5 years. He was kind and witty but a force to be reckoned with. Stories of friends being sent chasing golf balls on detention always made us laugh. May he rest in peace.
So sorry to hear of Mr. McGuinness’s passing. Condolences to his wife Angela children John, Mary and Fergal extended family and friends. Coincidentally, I was just thinking fondly the other day of an incident back in St. Laurence’s in 1974. We were in class and one of the lads decided to light up and smoke a cigarette at the very back of the class. Remembering at this time we were the first of the girls to enter St. Laurence’s College 5th year. The very thin veined smoke started slowly to emerge from the back of an A4 red folder. The teacher was enthusiastically writing on the blackboard totally unaware of the unfolding scenario!
The next minute the full, strong head of hair of Mr. McGuinness was visible through the glass pane of the classroom door! Crikey those of us that saw his quiet entrance into the classroom were speechless and fearful. His strong voice reverberated through the classroom.
The teacher turned around stunned and the smoking student nearly swallowed the cigarette. Mr McGuinness didn’t have to say much his presence said it all in spades. He bellowed out the student’s name, confiscated the opposing nicotine and said in his voluminous voice: £20.00 to Conquer Cancer and I want to see a receipt! What a clever way to deal with the situation. He was such a fair man, kind but in control. Much respected among his peers and students. May the next part of your journey be smooth and peaceful Mr. McGuinness thanks for the memories…….💜

Poem
In St Laurence's College it is told.
In appointing Frank the Marianist struck Gold.
For they could never really surpass.
A Teacher of such professionalism and class.
Respected and Loved and Feared so.
After all he was "Dean of Discipline" you know.
His punishment was always to educate.
No cane or writing lines till late.
But collecting Golf Balls on the School sports field that he had hit.
A cool way to practice his Golf I have to admit.
Frank loved his vocation, it was never a chore.
Loved his family much much more.
May loving memories never cease.
May your gentle Soul Frank rest in peace.

Sincere condolences to the family of Frank (Mister) McGuinness.
I checked my diary when I got to St Laurence College in 1976. This is what I found in my diary when I was 16:
Frank McGuinness is meant to be dead strict. That’s what I’ve been told, but I think he’s lovely. The other day he caught me and my friend peering through the window of a Sixth Year classroom, pointing at all the lads we fancied. We were so engrossed we didn’t hear or see him coming along the corridor, but next thing we heard:
“And what breed of talent are you two looking at?”
I looked around. Oh dear god, it’s Mister McGuinness. We're in BIG trouble. But instead of marching us to the office for litter duty penalties, Mister McGuinness quietly sent us back to class, with a gentle smile. I’m so glad I’m in this school.
Rest in peace, Mister McGuinness.

Deepest sympathy to Angela and Family on Franks sad passing,Im another past pupil of St Laurence College and I remember the Dean of Discipline with fondness, that been said if I heard his voice I tended to change direction rather quickly. And for some strange reason he asked a question in class one day I forget what the prize was but the question was "What is the registration of his car "IZO 603 BLUE CORTINA.50 odd years later I still remember. Rest In Peace Frank and it was a pleasure knowing you.
Comhbhrón ó chroí le Angela, John, Mary, agus Fergal agus le muintir McGuinness uile. Fear uasal agus comhghleacaí den chéad scoth ab ea Frank. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam mánla.
