Frank O'Shea

We loved Uncle Fran dearly. Such a gentle, fun and cerebral spirit. Our thoughts are with Laraine, Amie, Sophie and all the family. We were very honoured to be able to be at the funeral virtually. You all did a fine job. As we said, we will always remember our splendid times in Canberra. With Fran pucking a ball, explaining cricket/bridge/Sydney to Hobart/devonshire tea, moving Amie, midnight mass, who used whose razors even! And playing golf in Kenmare at the reunion. Deepest sympathy to all of Frank's family. Frank was a gifted teacher who taught me Physics and Applied Mathematics in Marian College in the 1970s. He inspired and encouraged his students and his love of subject shone in every lesson. He mentored me in my year of teacher training and prepared me well for my career teaching both subjects. I still have very fond memories of working alongside Frank in Marian College. A man of matchless erudition, Frank loved nothing better than a game of chess or a chat about politics during the lunchtime breaks. His wisdom and witty observations delighted us all.

Frank used to say (tongue in cheek) that where there are mountains, there are brains ..... an obvious reference to Kerry, a county, of which he was immeasureably proud. The MacGillycuddy Reeks certainly worked their magic on Frank! He was scholarly, conscientious and a wonderful teacher. More importantly, he was one of the finest gentleman who ever walked through tthe corridors of Marian College. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. David Kelly. Marian College.
