Sincere condolences to the Strahan family on the passing of Freddie.

As a young boy growning up on the northside of Dublin in a Shelbourne household - my father had Freddie on a pedestal alongside those other great players on a great side, Ben Hannigan, Eric Barber, Jackie Hennessy. There was always a great atmosphere at the games then and we all loved every minute of it - all these players with Freddie at the helm were my boyhood heroes. I never got to play L.o.i. but came close. They say memories live longer than dreams - thanks for the wonderful memories Freddie. R.I.P Shels fan.

Had the good fortune to see and appreciate Freddie's great skill as a centre half in the football mad sixties. What a player. He was really a giant in footballing terms.
League of Ireland in those days was in a class of its own. Every bit as good as Premiership now. The buzz in the crowd before kickoff, the witty merciless banter of the fans, the exceptional skills of Ben Hannigan, Freddie, Frank O'Neill, Ronnie Nolan, Tony O'Connell - pure magic.

Rest in Peace, Freddie. We owe you.

A childhood hero of mine. I remember approx 1963 as a nervous 11year old Shels supporter asking Freddie for an autograph after training on a wet night at Irishtown stadium where Shels trained at the time and not only did he oblige but took the time to engage me in conversation re what position and who I played for. They say you should never meet your heroes but he was the exception. A lovely memory of a lovely man which I still remember over 60 years later. RIP Freddie.
